    I worked at Leighton Contractors

    Pros

Great pay. Great people. Quality trades people. Top safety standards. All the training opportunities you could ask for. Experience, especially in the Whyalla area with all the mining and steelwork contracts. Opportunities to transfer anywhere Leighton's were working.

    Cons

Upper management shut our construction and maintenance crew down, early last year. Leighton's let us Whyalla people down last year as there were over 70 people employed through the local work shop. Leighton's also let all their customers down since Leighton's were the most preferred contactor in Whyalla holding over 3/4 of contracts for the steelworks and the mines. Also on the wharf expansion job in Whyalla, our crew worked flat out to win the pre-finish date bonus and our local Leighton's didn't receive any of the credit or a percentage of the money.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Leighton Contractors full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Diverse and exciting projects. Generally, good opportunity for different career paths/roles Stable employment (providing you're a valued employee) Great people

    Cons

If you're focused on a specific type of construction (commercial building, earthworks etc.) opportunities can be limited unless you're prepared to relocate. Lack of structure around promotion - many 5-7 year employees accept offers outside of the company due to this

I worked at Leighton Contractors full-time

    Pros

Great culture. Great renumeration. Great systems and most of all great people.

    Cons

Mining no longer exists in Leighton as it is now Thiess. A lot of the pros are no longer relevant. The companies have changed and I'd be weary going into either Leighton or Thiess now, they aren't the same, but it doesn't mean they're better or worse going forward, all mergers take time.
