    When team and some customers are good can be a friendly environment Some discounts, learn about lots of products

    Cons

    Overwork managers and have so many redundant protocols and tasks. Area managers are consistently awful and certain store managers do dodgy practices to appear better than others and take their job way too seriously given the average management salary (especially average given the risk associated with being the licensee)

    I have been working at Liquorland part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Meet a lot of nice people, 5-10% off coles stores discount, good myColes discounts and competitions.

    Cons

    Strange staffing. I am shifted by myself for nearly 6 hours during the busiest night of the week, while there are 2-4 people on in the middle of the day when it is less busy/less things to do. Depending on the size of the store, closing procedures can be so time consuming that it is impossible to finish on time and have the store up to standard. You just sign off on your shifted time and stay behind if there is more to do, and you are not paid for doing so. Leaving the store not completed can lead to being in trouble. SpendGets determine how many shifts you get. I had a shift taken away due to not selling 20% of spendgets (Store minimum). This is out of the employees control and depends on customers taste and the selection. They give shifts to those who sell more spendgets, as it makes the store more money. On a closing shift, one single employee must restock the cool room, face it, restock the shelves and the fridges and face it, clean the store, fill any shelf gaps and be present within the general area while a customer is present all while serving customers quickly. This means that you can not do a single job without having to serve customers throughout it, meaning it becomes difficult to complete all the tasks on time. If someone is hired to be on the tills, these jobs happen so much quicker and at a much better standard. If you’re casual, you can get in trouble for turning down shifts at other stores. Often they’d be offered on the same day, only hours before start and sometimes very far from the home store. This makes it hard for casuals to pick up shifts if they do not have a car, meaning they are offered left shifts. No breaks. Since you are working alone, you do not get a mandatory break. I apparently signed away my legal right to one in my contract. We do not have a “Back in 5” sign. This means I can’t go to the toilet either. If i need to, I have to wait until the car park is empty and run next door before someone comes in the store. If it’s busy, bad luck. You can’t request any days off or holidays during the Christmas period. I understand holidays, but not being allowed to say you’re unavailable for a single day is unfair. It’s scary. You’re alone at night (most likely time to face dangerous/drunk/angry people) and have no one to back you up. I would feel so so so much safer if I had a coworker with me. All in all, watch out for these things: - No breaks (Includes toilet breaks) - Not paid overtime if you have to stay after hours to complete tasks. - Shifted alone during peak hours - Too many tasks for one person to complete in the time given. - Shifts are given based on how much you make for the store in Spend Gets. - You have no immediate backup at night if a dangerous situation were to happen. - Often feels impossible to pick up shifts.

    Upper management are only in it for themselves, After lodging a serious sexual harrassment report against a supervising team member (not the store manager), I was told that they couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't work with this person again. The person I lodged the complaint against was also told by area manager who lodged the complaint. Sadly I wasn't the only employee that lodged this issue, yet the accused didn't even get a slap on the wrist!!! which I was told was because of how long they had been in the company for and they couldn't be fired, Even though they have had multiple strikes against their name which didn't include this claim... Because Coles Liquor couldn't look after all their employees, or offer to provide them with support. I decided to leave, as I didn't want to work for a company that allows sexual harassment to occur within their business and allowed a criminal to continue working there after harassing fellow employees. I didn't feel safe to work with this employee, which sadly was something I did regularly. Since starting at Liquorland I was diagnosed with anxiety and placed on medication. I'm still to scared to attend my local shopping complex for fear of walking into him whilst completing my weekly shopping. My cons list for working for Liquorland could go on for days and it isn't just about the sexual harassment claim. The company has completely unrealistic expectations! they expect a staff member to put pallets upon pallets of liquor away depending on the day and store size this could be thousands of bottles, slabs, and boxes of wine.! This tasks is so physically demanding. Most stores that I have been in also wouldn't pass ohs checks with the limited space where stock is stored and the unsafe working environments when putting pallets of stock away. Since resigning I still will not walk into a Coles supermarket or liquor store, as I don't want to support a company with such low standards for their employees!!! Honestly if I was you I'd think again before submitting your resume!!
