I have been working at MYOB full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As with most companies of this size, your team culture has a lot more impact on your experience than the actual company culture... at myob there are great engineering staff, so there is an opportunity to make the most of it.

    Cons

Most of the inefficiency and ineptitude is in the middle management layer. The front-line managers have all been let go, which is a real shame as they were acting as a bulwark against a bureaucratic and inept middle management layer.

I have been working at MYOB full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Smart engineers and developers. - plenty of benefits and activities. - c-level staff seem to be skilled and care about staff. - smart and capable team leaders.

    Cons

    - incredibly incompetent upper middle management with outdated mindsets that do not align to new company values. - too many meetings leaving no time for work. - upper middle management spend lots of money on 3rd party consultants with little results, still buy consultants services so it does not look like they wasted money. - upper middle management fires anyone who complains or might be a threat to their job, toxic culture. - too many chiefs, my dev focused department has more non technical managers than it does developers.

I worked at MYOB full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Internal relationships are strong, free fruit and drinks every Friday. Free parking is also available in various surroundings. Close to the station.

    Cons

Middle Management does not care Senior management cares too much for frontline staff, almost unheard of, and is jeopardising his ability to succeed. He needs to be more firm, especially around compliance and the dodgy sales practices being rehearsed at MYOB. No compliance. A lot of non-compliant and unethical sales behaviour taking place daily but nothing is done to resolve this, when in reality it should be monitored and legal repercussions should apply. Middle Management is underqualified and useless. "Team leaders" don't do anything.

    Pros

Good commission if you're dodgy. Relaxed work environment. People trust you to do the right thing, however this is most often abused as below.

    Cons

Too much of a focus on sales. Management not actually interested in client experience. Will keep a blind eye to extremely dodgy sales practices as well as practice a "it's not my problem" approach with 0 ownership of the business in general. Middle management is too busy paper shuffling and are out of touch with grassroots and are unaware/unwilling to address age old issues and problems. Too much hierarchy and bureaucracies. People in the know are not empowered to make beneficial change.

I have been working at MYOB

    Pros

Good location if you live in the eastern suburbs

    Cons

Senior Management are extremely out of touch with what the workers are doing and in doing so fail to understand the challenges faced to achieve goals. New starters be warned - they offer no induction and no support to new employees. There is also no organisation chart so it's really difficult to work out who you need to speak to to get things moving. Don't bother asking anyone else as they're all so overworked that they don't even stop to eat lunch, let alone breathe. This is all compounded by a complex structure where there are Product Managers and Marketers developing new products and promotional plans which they will not be able to execute themselves without taking to other teams in the business - who will then execute for them - but only if they agree to do so!!!. This can be very frustrating if you're not used to waiting for other people to 'allow' you to move forward with your project/plan. Meanwhile Senior Management and sitting back and wondering why you've not yet achieved your goals as they have no idea what's going on. Honestly there are so many handbrakes in MYOB they should really rename it MYOBP (Mind Your Own BrakesPlus). Senior Management also change KPIs and project goals frequently and with little notice and then get shirty when the new KPIs haven't been achieved within a couple of weeks. They are so out of touch that it's become an ongoing line of humour amongst the people who actually do the work. When the staff start mocking the Senior Management behind their back you know a business has developed some serious internal problems. MYOB management also has a view that they need to think like 'startups' to get ahead. Startups are sleek, streamlined and where management and workers are blended; executing and refining plans constantly. They are not large organisations with Senior Managers who are out of touch with workers and fail to understand the processes and workloads required to achieve the set goals. Startups entrepreneurs are 'hands-on'. They need to be to get ahead. They are not waiting for the next meeting with yet another powerpoint presentation. They are actually doing the work along with their other staff and don't need the powerpoint as they already understand the situation. On top of all this there are clowns snooping around who work for the US based Venture Capitalists who own MYOB who are constantly criticising and only rarely offer some constructive advice on how to move forward or improve. They are a negative influence in the business and create a feeling of unease amongst the middle management.

I worked at MYOB full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great bunch of people to work with Social Club

    Cons

CHCH Sales - Management is very poor, unprofessional and completely inexperienced. Micro-Management and bullying prevalent. Could be such a great company but is severely let down by middle management. Ever increasing sales targets and stress put on to staff. Treated like a number and not a person. Very high staff turn-over, 20 plus staff left in last few years and only 20 people in team total. Few long term staff left. MYOB that was once great is no longer. They like to employ sheep to follow to the tee what they say and not stand up for what is right. Tend to employ people on contract so they can fire people easily rather than employ good staff and train them well to retain. Teamwork not encouraged. Have seen firsthand management target certain individuals. Only way to survive is to keep head down and not make a fuss. Leaders only get job based on friendships and weekend hangouts.
