I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Challenging, autonomous, change, innovative. Focused on delivery, good culture and opportunities to network, promotes collaboration. You get out what you put in.

    Cons

Long hours expected when required (but not expected when not required). You need to be motivated to work individually, need to be able to adapt easily to change.

    Pros

Great perks, people friendly (especially junior staff), free food on each level

    Cons

Although I haven't explicitly seen it, rumours of political moves have plagued the floor.

    Advice to Management

    Watch out for the politics

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Brand name and co workers are generally ok

    Cons

Managers seem to only turn up to work for the purposes of making employees lives miserable gossip about staff even though would never have had a conversation with majority of staff that report to them.

Micro managing to an extreme level staff are forced to provide half daily updates on what they have done for the day.

Love using the term risk in everything they do but risk is a coded term for sales and as such unless you work in a income generating role, your viewed as an expense and as such treated like dirt where your expected to give up your own time for unpaid overtime, work weekends and public holidays without being compensated

    Advice to Management

Get out of your ivory towers engage with people nobody is trying to steal your jobs

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

Reputation, beautiful offices, exposures to events with impressive guest speakers, worldwide business and office locations.

    Cons

Long hours and a lot of politics, leaders and bosses are biased towards people within their own circles, cliche investment bankers' attitude and difficult personalities, uninspiring environment as the bosses sitting on top have become institutionalised for some time, training and staff development are dictated by the boss's own agenda, to move roles internally is either a ticking boxes exercise based on the previous box you were in, or regardless of what you know, it is who you know.

    Advice to Management

"People don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad bosses" ― Unknown

“Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.” ― Richard Branson

    Pros

Some employees are great to work with.

    Cons

    1. Toxic culture
    2. Extremely poor management
    3. They create a facade that they care about opportunities for their current employees but management and HR don't seem to really care
    4. The epitome of work politics

    Advice to Management

None - they wouldn't take your advice anyways, its a vicious cycle.
