    Positive Outlook

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Offers great remuneration packages and a highly professional working environment. Macquarie exudes a premium brand, and its Macquarie Foundation Group leads the industry in social giving, matching every dollar raised by the employee. You won't expect to find Macquarie in the newspapers for the wrong reasons unlike the other Big 4 (or small 4 depending on who you ask), there's a strong culture of risk management and integrity instilled from Alan Moss' days.

    Cons

Like any corporate company, it is not without bureaucracy in its abundance which is not conducive to those looking to operate quickly. The senior management pays lip service to its performance appraisal process, which is about KPIs and not career growth. They have done well to remunerate their staff, which reflects the sheer volume of long-tenured staff there, ie. those that love the 9-5 and enjoys their status quo.

I worked at Macquarie Group for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - You're allowed enough rope to do your thing - Expectations are set and how you meet them is up to you

    Cons

    - You're allowed enough rope to hang yourself (if you get my meaning) - If you're the shy, retiring type the culture can be off-putting (ie macho)

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Macquarie is a large organisation and they welcome staff moving roles internally. There is a huge range of departments and teams so it's hard to review the company as a whole but in general there are a good opportunities if you can get used to the fast pace. They have good benefits.

    Cons

Pay rises aren't in line with market. Doing multiple peoples jobs is usual.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You will feel challenged Lots of opportunities to take the initiative and drive improvements Excellent cloud strategy for both public and private cloud Opportunities to change roles through trading places

    Cons

Many cost center roles are required to charge time back to the business limiting the ability to do things outside your day to day work You will get recognised for improving the business, if your role is central IT, it is hard to be recognised Central IT feels redundant as the company moves towards a self service model

I worked at Macquarie Group for more than 3 years

    Pros

I worked in COG Technology, Sydney. + Empowered, ownership culture + Minimal red-tape compared to other banks + Reasonable tech

    Cons

+ Machiavellian promotion process + In technology, outside Front Office, forget directorships (Executive, Divisional, or Associate) unless you have worked in lower a title doing the upper title for 5-10 years (per title) and marketed yourself internally throughout so that there is no reason, no doubt in any peer from any unrelated team, for you NOT to be offered. Very stacked towards the house and lots of good talent goes because of this.

    Neutral Outlook
    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Modern working environment. Useful technology (wireless environment, meeting room projectors, activity based working) which makes day to day working more efficient and enjoyable. Exposure to a (mostly) intelligent set of people The ability to grow - I've learnt a significant amount at my time at Macq.

    Cons

Aggressive environment and culture. You're working with a competitive set of over-achievers which can be stimulating but also stifling. Your hard work can be well received but you are given the impression it is never quite good or fast enough. Constant focus on cost cutting and job justification. I'm all for being prudent but some of the measures to limit costs and focus on process is just unprofessional and insulting. Long hours - you can get sucked into this very easily and it soon becomes the norm. Aggressive timeframes are set routinely and almost arbitrarily at the expense of employees
