    I worked at Macquarie Group

    Pros

Flexible hours A LOT of time for projects (I am not kidding, I have almost never found myself not having enough time), and I have been given some tough projects (according to others) Recognized and rewarded for your hard work (in many ways), but YMMV depending on your BU I think Love the work based sitting arrangement Many people say working for Macquarie is like working in a pressure cooker, I have never felt this way. Perhaps I was lucky enough to be in a good team with a good manager. I had to leave for personal reasons at the end, and would have stayed otherwise.

    Cons

A little more training would be nice. To be fair, I did get the opportunity to be on two training courses, both were to prepare me (and others) for the new upcoming technology changes. However, getting training on existing technology was a little harder. Also, as any big corporations, you can expect plenty of red tapes, politics, and things can move incredibly slow at times. I was lucky enough to have managers that "shielded" me from a lot of these distractions, so not everyone might be as lucky.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The perks are ok, the money is good.

    Cons

If you are hired as a "developer" be prepared to ignore the language you were hired for, don't come here(Sydney) if you actually want to progress as a developer and learn more about your language. You'll either work on poorly written legacy code or sql, neither of which are appealing to any backend developer. Make sure you read the fine print and lesser mentioned parts of your job description before you sign a contract because that's what you'll be doing 90% of your time. I have never heard of a place where a developer doesn't use their IDE for four months straight.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice environment, free break fast, beautiful buildings to work in.

    Cons

Can't stress the politics around managers. They are horrible and think they are God. Agree not all of them are like this but most of them are.

    Pros

    - Comfortable working environment - Emphasis on work life balance - Smart and ambitious coworkers all around - Lively events all the time. Not your typical "corporate"

    Cons

    - Pockets of toxic culture - Slow and definitely not agile

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

    - Day in day out job - Modern offices - Growing tech department

    Cons

    - Still very rigid in team/management structure - Slow moving - Negative learning/improvement culture - people stuck in their ways (most developers have been working in finance industry for 15+ years and just change from bank to bank) - Lots of legacy systems

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Used to have many smart people who worked hard as a team. Can have flexible work arrangements Nice and central offices Good name to have on CV.

    Cons

Recent exec changes have changed the culture and brought down morale of many departments. Focus has been on cost cutting in expense of knowledge and team structure. Many teams now working in silo and very political. Experienced people out the door and people with neither the intelligence, leadership or experience put in their place as they are cheaper. Many excellent managers no longer there because of this.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

I've been with Macquarie for 5-10 years working in IT and it's one of the best places I've worked. The hiring process is quite tough (3+ interviews plus 3 hour psychometric test) but I must say this helps weed out the bad hires. The people I've worked with are terrific and make the workplace an enjoyable place to be. The corporate culture is positive but we do work hard. Pay is pretty decent if you work hard.

    Cons

Sadly the group is extremely cost conscious which means every 6-12 months they go through a restructure and let people go. Generally it's only the contractors and directors that let get let go as they earn the most.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Smart people, profitable business. A lot training opportunities. Help develop interpersonal skills. A way to impress your next employer. Get experience in FinTech.

    Cons

Too many hierarchies, too many processes, horrible internal IT systems. Endless cost cutting. Not an IT staff friendly environment. Business intervenes software development too often and very pushy.
