I have been working at MapR Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fast paced, collaborative, people who really care and go the extra mile to help each other. The technology is exciting, and the teams start to feel like family very quickly

    Cons

company has become an absolute mess since Matt Mill's departure. Very engineering focused, sales is looked at as more of a nuisance and an expense than a value add. The fact that the entire sales force was let go is very indicative of the culture - as a sales rep you are expendable to executives and the CEO John Schroeder.

    Pros

Working at Mapr gives very good exposure to Hadoop ecosystem. People are highly skilled and it is the best place for learning distributed systems.

    Cons

Poor marketing and sales. Engineering needs to share their knowledge more often.

I have been working at MapR Technologies full-time

    Pros

Clearly the board sees something good in the exec team.

    Cons

Every company has its share of ups and down. Communication is key to building consensus and motivating the team to help solve the challenges. That is why the team is there for. The leadership team at MapR holds a 'us vs. them' approach, With close to zero communication and exaggerated truths, the leadership got what it deserved, a team that has no way to row in the same direction to help get past the problems. Can't speak for others, but won't ever work for this exec team again.

I worked at MapR Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Met some amazing people during my 2.5 years there. Unfortunately those same amazing people all jumped ship before the latest sweeping layoff hit the rest of us.

    Cons

Employee culture is non-existent. Messaging is inconsistent and changes monthly. Communication is cryptic. Harassment is present. Zero support for professional development. Employees are blindsided by organizational changes far too often, which has turned into the norm. The office environment mimics that of a graveyard.
