I have been working at MapR Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    • World class differentiated product. Our software does amazing things. • Accessible executive management who, while being tremendously accomplished, are approachable, everyday people. • Low bureaucracy. Low organizational inertia. A place where doers can get things done • Good people. From top to bottom, across the world, in all functional areas, MapR employees are top talent, disproportionally pass the “would I have a beer with this person” test, and are always willing to roll up their sleeves to help, whether or not it is in the job description. • Flexible work environment where we are treated like adults to get our jobs done where and when it makes sense.

    Cons

    • Good enough isn’t good enough. MapR doesn’t accept middle of the road performance. If you aren’t a high performing, high achiever, you may not thrive here. *And if you view an unwillingness to accept mediocrity as a “con,” this may not be the right place for you. • The work is hard. The pace of play is fast. The load is heavy. This isn’t a job where you can coast. *And if you view a job where you have to put in the work as a “con,” this may not be the right place for you. • As a late stage, venture backed company, we experience continual improvement efforts, which results in change. Workers who prefer a consistent, predicable, static work environment will not thrive here.

I have been working at MapR Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Employees are treated well and equally. The Executive team are "normal" people who talk to you. The company try to keep employees informed, with a super friendly culture. Colleagues are very supportive, with great knowledge and experience, not just in EMEA, but throughout the organisation - from my colleagues at HQ in Santa Clara, to those I have met during our Sales Kick-Offs in the U.S. Working in sales / marketing, the product is fundamental to my pride at work and career prospects within an organisation. Since joining MapR I have met multiple clients from a variety of industries and the all have been extremely happy with the product and service delivered. My job allows me to be part of an exciting hyper-growth journey at MapR - it is a great time to be at MapR!

    Cons

When a company is growing there will be growing pains and certain challenges. But that also makes MapR and exciting place to work and keeps my job interesting. Each day brings new challenges, but if you are prepared to work hard, then the satisfaction of genuinely contributing to the success of a business outweighs any negatives.

"Good technology, but no clear direction. Most probably preparing to be sold."

I worked at MapR Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Solid technology, especially the file system 2. Good working environment and given freedom to run the business

    Cons

I will not go into the usual cons about lack of marketing and overly technical messaging as this has already been shared widely. My cons will be: 1. No clear direction from management on the future of the company. 2. Some of the actions (downsizing, layoff, lack of investments in marketing) clearly shows that the company is preparing itself to be sold. 3. What a waste, we are giving Cloudera a free run.

I worked at MapR Technologies full-time

    Pros

Amazing and solid technology, but that's about it.

    Cons

High level of attrition/layoffs due to upper management's inability to focus on direction. Product marketing focus is technical with no message to business user.

    MapR Technologies Response

    March 29, 2019

Our hope is that all MapR employees feel that their time at MapR is interesting, positive, and challenging. We are genuinely sorry to hear that you are not having that sort of experience. MapR is especially concerned about your “hostile work environment” comment. We want to assure you that we take all allegations of improper discrimination very seriously. If an employee is a target of severe and pervasive unwelcome conduct based on race, creed, citizenship, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, sex or gender (including gender identity), sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, medical conditions, family care status, veteran status, or any other basis protected by law, we want to hear about it so we can fix it. We are concerned that you have not brought forward a complaint about this alleged discrimination through the various reporting mechanisms we make available to employees. We encourage you to contact your manager, the HR department, the Legal department, or use our confidential, anonymous complaint procedures as outlined in our Speak-Up policy. We want to make sure that MapR is a comfortable and positive place to work for all of our employees. Again, we encourage you to report your concerns about any unlawful discrimination through the proper channels so they can be investigated and remediated.
