    I have been working at McGraw-Hill full-time

    Pros

    Since mid 2018, not much

    Cons

The lack of commercial and sales knowledge in the business is amazing. They only want yes people. The amount of bullying from the top is unbelievable. The lack of respect for people who work hard is non-existent while the gossipers and backstabbers rise up the ladder. If you can talk the talk you but don't walk the walk, you are in the good books. However if you walk the walk and don't talk the talk, game over.... Potentially the most unprofessional environment ever.

I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Really great coworkers in the sales team, and a supportive direct manager, and quite a good work/life balance, depending on your location

    Cons

No culture; no support; not many opportunities to advance unless you're willing to relocate; far too HQ-focused without much consideration for local offices and teams; non-existent HR; stale senior management; low compensations and benefits

    Advice to Management

Senior management could really use a re-shuffle as it seems the same people constantly get promoted, which leads to a clique-y and quite unhelpful environment; HR really needs to shape up as there is zero support for employees. Due to this, there is a severe lack of culture and quite a negative, toxic environment to work in. Compensations, benefits and incentives could also use an upgrade to match people's value... and contributions a bit better

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Besides above board benefits for some areas, the rest are not worthy of mention

    Cons

Lack of Strategy and Direction, Poor Follow-Up Skills, Racist and non-inclusive environment

    Advice to Management

Until you continue to keep the vermin around who pretend to be working and doing something, you will continue to run into losses. Overhead costs are not justified in many locations. Educate internal staff to be equipped with the knowledge BEFORE they attempt to take on a new or additional portfolio. Stretching your teams to be lean at the COE levels is affecting overall capabilities, performance and ability to... support globally.

I have been working at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    • Great brand, proud history of delivering quality learning and teaching resources. • Good technology, though rapidly diminishing competitive advantage. • Interesting work, good company mission.

    Cons

    • Company's performance appears so dire that senior leaders are either jumping ship or being removed. Aim is obviously to 'stabilize' the company to be offloaded to another VC firm. • Failure to invest in anything new has put the company behind the market by 2-3 years. Too late to play catch up... • No real strategy or trajectory. Decision-making is ad-hoc and pivots occur every quarter. • Claim to be global... but organization and strategy focused solely on US.
