I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great colleagues
    Good Benefits
    Great team work

    Cons

    No room for growth
    No work life balance

The turn around rate of research coordinators is high, and because of that you are thrown work constantly that it makes it impossible to ever feel like you are catching up. There is little to no recognition from management and the fact that you handle upwards of six protocols is daunting especially when you are responsible for every aspect within the protocol (patient care, regulatory, data management, sponsor visits etc). I was working over time everyday and would work a total of 10-12 hours each day with little to no appreciation from management. You could do everything right, work hard, show commitment, but if there is one or two things in error they will focus on that instead of what you have accomplished. Furthermore there is little to no room for growth, and the outlook of advancement is a big question mark. There are many talented colleagues who work hard everyday to prove themselves and care about the organization's mission, yet arent valued. I worked very hard over the last 6 years as a constant team player, attended many leadership workshops, and pursuing grad school all in the hope to grow into a leadership role. Instead I got the run around and felt staying at the hospital was not conducive for my professional growth.

    Advice to Management

Mentor your employees. Guide them to grow professional and appreciate their input
