I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly Team and approachable managers based in the office. Work life balance is good, as long as long as you can manage your workload (it might mean putting a bit of effort in at the start). You are given the freedom to manage your own day.

    Cons

Technology is weak. Once a new system is released, legacy systems are not decommissioned therefore work is duplicated. Forced 2 week holiday and made to come in on 2nd Jan because the share price will apparently bottom out if we don't get the annual report out a day early!!!

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time

    Pros

I appreciate that I am working at such a prestigious company where the employees truly have a great attitude. My colleagues in the office are so kind and much more friendly than anywhere else that I've worked. The position is not always the most demanding, so I have a lot of opportunity to learn more about the stock market and focus on it in my free time, for which I am extremely grateful.

    Cons

The pay is quite low considering you are supporting a multi-million dollar business. Additionally, the position is lower paying than the others in the office and mostly consists of females - not for lack of intelligence. Additionally you are expected to pass all three series exams - SIE, Series 7, and Series 66 within the year, yet they only "give" you about 3 hours per week to study for them. Any extra studying that needs to be done to pass the exams is strictly off-the-clock, which is frankly disappointing.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work life balance, working 40hrs a week.

    Cons

Pay is less than other brokerages. If you are working for old school brokers who dont understand technology you should inherently be paid more.
