      Don't care about Production

Aug 2, 2020 - Production Assistant in Vancouver, BC

      Pros

      - The people are supportive and nice - Snacks and free food and drinks - Casual and chill work environment - Good benefits - Yoga and art classes at lunch

      Cons

No work/life balance. They do not tell you that you are expected to work overtime until the last minute. Very poor organization. Inexperienced management that listens but never changes any problems. The artists are paid way more and treated like royalty whereas production is expected to work 60-100 hour weeks with no recognition. Artists are valued way more. Promotions are all very political. They promise you will move up and grow but they do not offer support nor do people who deserve to move up fast. Deluxe/Method are also going through leadership change, there is no end to the amount of changes that happen, new news everyday and the leadership seems sketchy.

      Pros

Do an outstanding job and your name can get in movie credits. Great foot in the door experience. Two kitchen areas where they stock a wide variety of coffees and snacks. The building is pleasant to walk around in and look at Company get-togethers were always fun since there is a stocked bar, board games, an upstairs patio, and kitchen.

      Cons

Work was either overly fast-paced or overly slow Bummed when you didn't get your name in credits lots of "politics" when certain decisions that can affect your job are made they are very hesitant to hire you full-time, promote you, or give you a raise super-secret projects cannot be named in resumes which don't allow you to prove you did work unless they phone your boss and they tell your next potential employer that you did the work parking is VERY bad. public transportation is recommended (they have hulu bikes out front to help) too many deadlines leading to too much overtime. nice for income bad for work-life balance

Seriously consider your options before applying here and if you do get everything in writing first

      Pros

People are friendly The artists who are there are very knowledgeable Free coffee and cereal/ bagels in the mornings Work can be interesting... although not recently with all the recent rounds of layoffs. Benefits for staff if you can get it.

      Cons

Upper management is horrible. They don’t understand what they are requesting of artists most of the time or the timing required to complete the assigned tasks. When Artists are asked to give eta’s they disregard entirely. People are friendly but only because it’s a corporate environment. You’re not supposed to show emotion. When a ridiculous request comes through last minute (Which happens most weeks, especially around Friday evening do to pour planning) you’re expected to smile into overtime with no complaints. (No work life balance) HR department is completely useless to go to for help and or advise. There is no appreciation for the employees. The company cares more for its clients then the people that work for them and it clearly shows. Most departments are being outsourced. Larger management teams. Smaller working teams No room for upward growth. Once you’re locked in on your contract there’s little to no chance of changing it. The famous line is “be patient it’s coming” with no eta on when and very vague answers to any real question you may have. With all the lay-offs the ones who are remaining are expected to pick up the slack of all the missing employees. With no title change or compensation adjustments. It is also Extremely difficult to get work for a demo reel.

      Pros

Some great talent, coworkers all friendly and helpful, nice space, internal sister company has lots of celebrity filmmakers wandering the halls. Because of layoffs the men's room is not constantly full and smelly. Work/life balance is great since there's no work.

      Cons

Work has dried up, a lot of top billing senior talent has left for another local post facility, many rounds of layoffs, morale is completely tanked. CEO just sent a company wide email that essentially says "Have a good summer to recharge and reconnect with family and friends." So.... we have no work all summer? Rumors that the entire company being sold.

      Pros

      - Free breakfast, if you're early - Charming individuals - Complimentary dinner for overtime workers - Good parties

      Cons

      - Very corporate - A lot of lip service and lies from higher ups - Layoffs - No upward growth for staff - Even for the industry, the overtime and lack of work/life balance is very bad

      A Broken Studio

      Pros

There are no pros to working at this studio

      Cons

      - They signed onto a creature-heavy show with NO CREATURE PIPELINE in place. So with no creature SOP's in place, you can imagine how the show progressed as it neared closer to delivery. - The artists are worked way too hard and many are driven to quitting the industry overall after working at Method. - When production ramps up, say goodbye to your social life and personal relationships because you are expected to work overtime like everyone else. The concept of work-life balance is foreign to management. - Supervisors bad-mouth artists' work all the time behind their backs - Shows are not properly bid for initially, resulting in a mad scramble to find last-minute artists to work on short-deadlined shots with little-to-no training provided. - Cross-site shows from VAN to LA are an absolute nightmare because the two locations have very different approaches to doing things, and wires are crossed all the time.

      Great artists. Poor management

Mar 19, 2016 - Artist in Los Angeles, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - There are a lot of talented artists with a desire to perform at their best and create top level work. - Interesting projects are becoming more and more available - Sometimes there are company events for employees

      Cons

Upper Management isn't in touch with what's happening in their departments. Level of morale is low with long work hours and no work/life balance. Pay is low at upper level positions. There is a large push to become salaried after a certain dollar amount/hour, which works in the companies favor. Doing so

It's A Wonder They Can Still Find New Employees

      Pros

There are some decent artists but I'm only writing that because when I wrote "none" it told me that wasn't long enough.

      Cons

No respect for work/life balance - you'll live in constant fear of the late nights and weekend work. Everything is about how they can make even the worst clients happy so the artists and staff suffer endlessly. If you complain it will be seen as an annoyance and they'd rather replace you than fix what is wrong. Make no mistake - they may seem like a small-ish studio, but they operate like the worst of giant faceless corporations. Only the people who stick it out rise to the top, making the leadership an assortment of the most backstabbing, uninspired, bitter and resentful people in the business. There are dozens of other places to work - go to any of them instead.

      Terrible

      Pros

Nice roof deck, free breakfast, talented teams, fun Christmas and Halloween parties. Pretty much all the surface level things to keep people working somewhere while you're treating them poorly.

      Cons

      - Terrible upper management - No respect for production staff or artists - Low pay - No work/life balance. No respect to staff when asking to work weekends/late nights - They close the office during Christmas and don't pay employees - so you either have to lose a week + of pay or take a week of vacation. This is disgusting! And makes any salary you agree to you in a contract a lie. To take money away from staff during the holidays is despicable.
