Pros

You have the ability to run your own business, work remotely, and still easily connect with co-workers.

Cons

Management changed 3 times within my 9 months of working at MobyMax. I consistently exceeded all metrics, worked over-time, and still came shy of meeting goals. When reaching out to management on a consistent basis to change my formula I was repeatedly spoken to as if I was the problem only to be 1 of 50 employees laid off in December. This company invested so many resources into recruitment of new sales reps and very little into marketing and lead generation. One of their main spoken benefits is that all leads are provided for you with current teachers using MobyMax. This is very simply a lie. There is no true lead management creating a system where senior reps are given favorable leads but all reps are under the same quota. Brian Marella should be ashamed of himself and the position that he put his team in.

Pros

-Work from home -Good amount of PTO (but holidays come out of the same bank, beware!)

Cons

-Management that doubled the cost of a program overnight without adding any features making schools working with pre-approved budgets unable to afford. -Managers carry their own individual sales quotas, incentivising them to steal deals from their employees, as well as hoarding renewal and hot leads for themselves instead of passing to their teams. -Salespeople that work outside of the system with NO documentation, so when a rep sells a big deal another person can swoop in and take credit and commission for the deal with no warning and no way to avoid. -Technology and equipment all paid for by the employees -Company doesn't invest in tools, using only free versions and non-business applications that are buggy at best and unable to be standardized companywide -Managers that offer only negative reinforcement, no helpful criticism or coaching to improve what you are doing. -Management that reprimands you for collaborating with teammates, or for asking questions to them during the day. -Ideas and questions during meetings are shouted down or met with defensiveness or hostility, instead of being collaborative they are just combative.

Declining Work Environment

Pros

Overall, the people are great. I truly enjoyed my co-workers and how we were able to build our development team into a well-oiled machine. QA and development forged a great partnership, working together to put out builds on a regular schedule.

Cons

Over the last few years, the overall environment at Moby has declined. I believe this is largely due to micromanagement directly from the CEO. Numerous high-level employees left Moby in the last year. This resulted in the CEO having little-to-no checks and balances. This also meant lower-level employees were directly engaging with the CEO, which could be a good thing, but this actually caused me to have an extremely high-stress level, as well as feel constant pressure to the point I was working 10-hour days to attempt to meet his high and unnecessary expectations.

Over the last two years, we have made significant changes at MobyMax, and there is no doubt that change is hard. We started Moby by taking a bold, new direction in education, and are doing this again a decade later. We’ve invented a whole new integrated approach to curriculum, a development framework that is at the forefront of development, and a new, enthusiastically adopted approach to working with schools. Innovation and the resulting change are hard for some, but our innovation continues at an accelerating rate, and our second decade is the most promising time we have ever had at MobyMax. Here's to helping teachers for more years! Glynn and Wade
