    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Motley Fool full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Extremely high employee engagement scores (north of 85%) emerging from a culture team that really cares and smart people across the company, working toward a higher purpose together. The business is in an excellent financial position and is 100% owned by past and present employees.

    Cons

Hitting scale with numerous solutions is going to require a lot of work on prioritization, communication, recognition, and... learning how to say no. I’m optimistic because the company understands this.

    Advice to Management

As often as is reasonably possible, make sure to be on the same page about the bigger decisions because the downstream effects can be subsntantial.

I have been working at Motley Fool full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Employees are given a lot of flexibility. Many perks like unlimited paid vacation, reduced rate hair cuts in the office, standing desks.

    Cons

Things can shift quickly. Many employees hoard clutter in an open office environment

    Advice to Management

    Keep on trucking!

I worked at Motley Fool for more than 3 years

    Pros

When things are going smoothly, there is a real sense of camaraderie, even among remote writers I found lots of flexibility as to what writers could produce (at first). You could write as much as you wanted and make very good money When I worked there, there were incentives...bonuses made up a big portion of my monthly earnings Yearly get-togethers in Alexandria were completely paid for by the company, further...

    Cons

MF is very male-centric. During my last year there, I saw male writers with poor writing skills nurtured and brought along while females (some of whom MF trained at a so-called "boot camp" in Alexandria) were let go When the good times are rolling, it's a blast to write for MF. I enjoyed most of my time there, and most editors were top-notch. But things went bad when the company integrated the blog into the main site,...

    Advice to Management

I've been gone for a while, so perhaps things have changed. I don't think they would be open to advice from former workers, anyway.
