I have been working at Myer part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Inspirational People. Diverse team driven by strong, approachable leaders in a fun and dynamic environment. All these words are true. You really can live it inside!

    Cons

In all companies, basically the challenges are the same, isn't it? But the big difference is in how you approach those challenges and the kind of leader who leads you!

    Advice to Management

My advice is not specifically about people, but about sales ... after all they make the business spin and thus make it possible to employ more people. Get closer to the Asian market with more strength! He is the future in retail, especially being geographically so close.

I have been working at Myer part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The ONLY pros about this place are: - The discounts - Some of the people you meet there will become life long friends

    Cons

Where do I begin? - Ridiculous hours worked for the pay check you receive. - No recognition for hard work, EVER. - No official training provided, they expect casual staff to train new staff - Casuals get shifts cut after 3 hours because they want to save a $25 instead of providing customers ACTUAL service - You can voice your opinions/concerns but will they listen? Probably not. - They'll drop you in a department...

    Advice to Management

Senior management team at Melbourne need to get off their high horse. Constantly being demanding and demeaning is a disgusting trait to have when you are in a higher position. Learn how to respect the people who actually work to get you the sales and treat them as actual people rather than disposable beings. They are fully capable of doing some of the tasks you keep demanding people do for you. Take into consideration...

I worked at Myer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

None except the under-dogs are loyal employees

    Cons

Archaic management with mean and disillusioned upper management.

    Advice to Management

Stop using your authority to demean and belittle employees. When you hear the SM say that they plan to make the staff ‘cry’ you know you’re in the wrong place of employment

I worked at Myer part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good work experience. Most of the people are very supportive, especially Team Leaders and colleagues. Lovely customers. Flexible working hours.

    Cons

No career progression opportunities, not incentives if you achieve or overcome targets, very little training. The work environment is up to the manager's mood of the session, and some of them do micromanagement (not helpful in an industry where matters the customer service). Product selection is mainly boring, repetitive. The popular ones are few in stock and the ones that take longer to sell (no popular products) there...

    Advice to Management

If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your customers, then your customers will put money in your pocket and they will come back, so at the end, the customers will take care of the company only if they've had a great experience. Offering a good selection of quality products help to attract more customers.

I worked at Myer part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Team of people I worked with were great. Discounts are very generous. Lots of hours to pick up around Christmas time. Interact with all different brands. Great place to grow your retail skills.

    Cons

People. Hours. You can get lucky enough to work in a team of people who are easy to get along. Some people not so much. Bullying is not a foreign theme. Hours are SCARCE. You'll work every day in Christmas time, but come January you'll be thrown to the kerb like you never even existed. Enforces the notion that you were just used to make sales. Management don't care how much experience you have in retail. They only...

    Advice to Management

Stop the Nepotism. Support your loyal employees and stop enabling lazy employees' behaviour. Give the hours to people who really deserve it and work hard. I am not surprised that Myer is struggling as a company, once was the most iconic store in Australia, now, is like a glorified Kmart. My advice to keep your company afloat? Fire all the old lazy employees. Restructure your departments. Re-evaluate the culture. Hire...

I worked at Myer part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly floor staff and really good team leaders. Good discounts.

    Cons

Unorganised management. Minimum pay and if you are part time they don't pay for overtime (which I did a lot of.) Team leaders work harder than the managers.

    Advice to Management

Get on the floor to actually see whats happening instead of wasting time sitting in the office and wasting time having a big meeting with team leaders about the same thing every day.
