I have been working at NBN Co full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay above market rate to attract people Lots of great people with good skills Work from home flexibility

    Cons

Insecure, self-centred managers with minimum leadership skills who only care about the security of their jobs. Months go by with endless meetings held by managers, achieving no outcomes or providing any direction to their teams. There is a restructure every 3-6 months to clear out people that have questioned decisions made by executives or raised concerns. Being a high performer and delivering outcomes doesn't mean anything unless you spend 90% of your time praising your managers and executives. HR supports managers regardless of them being repeat bullies and refers employees to EAP services. EAP services are helpful, but EAP can't change the toxic work environment or the behaviour of the bullying egoistic managers that the employee has to report into. There are so many opportunities to improve what nbn does, but toxic culture is pushing out the high performers.

I have been working at NBN Co full-time for more than a year

    Pros

some great people, and some interesting technologies if you're in the CDO

    Cons

pockets of toxic political culture means you have be managing perceptions across your stakeholders as well as delivering. Frequent restructures that don't make particular sense. Areas of the company will be shrinking as the network build approaches completion.

I worked at NBN Co full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-Good work life balance, no staying back late or extra hours required. -Excellent salary

    Cons

-Too many company restructures which were unnecessary and disruptive -Bad culture and lack of team work. Many of the staff members and managers thought they were too good to help others, us “mere employers” were not allowed to speak to people with a certain status -unapproachable upper management -unnecessary meetings -lack of autonomy within individual teams. My direct manager was highly capable and very approachable and our team had functioned well for years. However a new upper manager came in and transformed everything, didn’t let us make any decisions, continually undermined staff and made decisions about my future without even speaking to me. -hypocritical policies particularly on mental health. The company keeps holding itself out to be a leading workplace in mental health but the reality is completely opposite. I majorly struggled with my mental health last year due to a chronic pain issue and upper management didn’t care or accommodate. In the end I left this company because of it despite being one of the longest serving employees as nbn would not give me any flexibility. It was devastating my time here came to an end this way -hypocrisy and inconsistency with flexible working. It is unfair the company has a working from home policy but in reality it was rarely allowed and there was so much discrepancy between teams. It was ridiculous upper management could come in and make decisions for a group of people they didn’t even know without their consultation. It is not fair some teams can have it and others cannot
