I worked at NSW Government full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Every project was different but allowed skill-building that applied to future projects - Interesting projects and partnerships with local, national and international institutions, private industries and individuals - A high level of autonomy whilst working within a team - Ideas and innovation valued - Flexi time and addition leave for family and community service

    Cons

    - Public service attitude - Too many 'seat warmers' that never left as they were enrolled in the old super scheme that pays a full time wage and is indexed so generally rises more than if staying in full time employment - Total inequity of workload between 'seatwarmers' and hard workers. Middle management were never able to address the situation even though it was well-known - Institution became top heavy with executive management so became increasingly ineffective with decisions and direction - Low opportunity for career advancement
