    I worked at NSW Police Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Policing is a great job. Loved assisting the community. Overtime was great although sometimes a little too much work.

    Cons

    Post traumatic stress. Missing out on important family events and fun times with friends, being on call, too much overtime. Middle management up are just looking after themselves and their cronies.

    Advice to Management

    Look after the little guy. Assist those in need. Be aware of work stress and PTSD. Be much more vigilant in this regard.

    Pros

    Onsite gym, hmmmm nothing else

    Cons

    Very low cost; business decisions being made by unqualified staff; the existence of toxicity in parts of the business;

    Advice to Management

    Royal commission style changes need to be made

    Great friends made, life skills learnt, interesting and diverse work

    Cons

    horrible culture, workplace bullying, very little support from upper level management

    I have been working at NSW Police Force full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - A diverse range of skills and jobs can be acquired.
    - Opportunities to move around the state.
    - Can't complain about the money.
    - Roster can be very appealing (flexible roster with 4 on/6 off)

    Cons

    - Seeing some horrible things and doing some horrible stuff.
    - An organisation that seems to suppress leadership above the level of Sergeant.
    - Reasonable possibility of being posted somewhere you don't want to be.
    - Management that is obsessed with statistics and out of touch with the "boots on the ground" workers.

    Advice to Management

    Foster leadership in the upper echelons of local commands.

    Pros

    Best job ever, always welcoming, provide all the courses you can imagine to assist your goals. Plenty of relief duties to climb the ladder of success.

    Cons

    I did not find any downside to my 22 years of employment. Opportunities were there at all levels.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work with relief availability and training. I could not fault my 22 years experience.

    Pros

    Good variety of work and roles, plenty of opportunity to move between roles/departments to keep things interesting. Extremely secure employment, very decent pay for what you do and the lack of qualifications required - no working late for free, no unpaid overtime if you choose not to. Opportunities to move to a variety of locations within NSW. Recommended for someone wanting interesting work and job security.

    Cons

    Plenty of opportunity for lateral movement, less so for vertical. The organisation doesn't take an interest in motivating or developing its staff, or retaining good staff.. Downside of high job security is laziness and incompetence is not punished, nor is competence or work ethic adequately recognised or rewarded. Limited transferability of skills/experience to other organisations. Not recommended for someone who is motivated and ambitious and wants to excel.

    Advice to Management

    Hold people accountable for their performance and follow through on management action for poor employees - even if it is more work in the short term, it will be better for the organisation. This needs to come from the top down.

    Pros

    You are able to change your role without changing your employer. Good wage and work conditions. It is described as the best second job you can have

    Cons

    Systems driven lacking personal care or concern at the end of the day you are just a number to be replaced whenever the situation arises

    Advice to Management

    Fail tondeber their roots and the role they once played. Overs age at the fear of external overseers who have noninsughtmor ability to recognise the difficult hobit is. Zero welfare outside of what may effect them.
