Nothing is perfect, but a great place to work

      Pros

The people - best team I've worked with in a long time. Work life balance - the 9/80 schedule is brilliant, plus there is the capacity to work from home if you need to. Great locations and offices. And my manager. Definitely in the grand final of best ever. The vision - they definitely are always looking up and out. I love that.

      Cons

Branching off from a US company causes some teething problems with Australian processes. Slow at times - approval from the USA - see above re developing processes. But that is absolutely not out of the ordinary for a big company.

      I find the work boring

      Pros

Flexible work arrangements, 9/80 schedule, decent benefits

      Cons

If you have a PhD and want to do challenging/interesting work, go somewhere else. I've been trying for nearly two years to get assigned to something like this with no success. I've tried moving to the basic research division, but there is a chronic funding shortage there and so it's nearly impossible to get a full time assignment there. So I keep getting systems engineering roles like risk management, writing requirements verification text, schedule/budget, MBSE, etc. None of this requires a PhD. And for the record, my PhD is in electrical engineering with a focus on IR sensors/lasers from UCLA. This is absolutely a field of work done at Northrup Grumman. Why won't they assign me to a role in this area? Beats me. Compensation is ok, but nothing close to what you'll make in Bay Area tech.

Good Benefits; Little Support for New Hires

      Pros

Good Benefits (9/80 schedule allows you to take time off, flexible work arrangements) Smart, nice co-workers who are ready to help you out Pathways Rotational Program allows you to explore a lot of different areas without leaving the company

      Cons

Onboarding and training are virtually nonexistent; very little support for new hires Big company, government industry, lots of bureaucracy

Potential to be great, but politics in the way.

      Pros

      - Work life balance (9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off) - Pay (above average / on par with industry) - Customers -- works makes a difference in support of the military - Products -- cool platforms, products, and systems... great for engineers or other STEM... if you're not an engineer, I'd look elsewhere.

      Cons

      - Work life balance -- lots of time spent spinning wheels due to little direction and politics = no one wants to make a decision, even simple ones... so you may end up occasionally working that 9/80 Friday they give you (maybe one every 3-4), and you may work some long hours during the week... definitely set boundaries with "leaders" - Toxic culture, especially at the top (director and VP level). Littler diversity and an "old boys club". They resist change and are rarely opened to new ideas. Consistently take credit for your work and don't let you shine. Will often add two cents just for the sake of it to be heard. - Fake empathy -- claim to care about attracting young talent, yet keep trying to do things the same tired ways.

      Pros

      - The rotation program is a great way to draw in new engineers because there is opportunity to move both within the company and across the country to other locations - Pay and benefits are pretty good for such a large company - Pretty good work-life balance in my group where much overtime isn't expected or needed - 9/80 schedule and flexible time is also nice

      Cons

      - The 3 year cliff for 401K vesting sucks a little bit but is definitely a way to keep talent - I've only been here a few months, but everything moves slowly and I think could benefit from something like Agile. It would be nice to be given projects in a more streamlined, faster-paced way, but this is more of a personal preference.

      Pros

Good health/other insurance and employee matching. 9/80 schedules are nice

      Cons

Poor corporate culture Program and contract have a big effect on these: Pressure to not take days off Must use PTO for sick days No paid lunch Onboarding was minimal/non-existent Outdated tech and insufficient support (depends on contract) WFH is highly dependant on the whims of your functional Total time accounting is a pain
