Good Culture. At times slow moving

1 May 2020 - Aerospace Engineer in Chandler, AZ

      Pros

Very good engineers. Managers who seem to care, generally. Lots of smart people to get help from and bounce ideas off of. Very secure job with good pay and benefits.

      Cons

Huge corporation with a lot of bureaucracy and slow-moving processes. Lots of situations where talent is specialized in a couple of people, and when they leave, they lose the skillset due to poor documentation and no training. Lastly, difficult to transition from large, slow legacy programs to more exciting and challenging work. If you're lucky enough to be put onto a newer, early-stage program, good on you; if you are unlucky enough to be stuck in the black hole of old legacy programs, you'll never get out. Additionally, upper management can be tone-deaf and come off very much as caring solely about the dollars they get rather than the employees who work for them.

      Good Company - Rough Managment

29 Jul 2020 - Software Engineer III in Melbourne, FL

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent benefits and pay. Long time employees extremely knowledgeable and good mentors. GREAT work life balance and good program level management.

      Cons

High turn over rate. Upper corporate management tends to be the source of a lot of the problems. Staffing issues result in project delays and quarterly work reallocation. Promotion process is directly tied in with hiring process, so getting a promotion involves applying for the job you are already doing. As well as heavier upper management oversight. Bigger programs get more priority for promoting and hiring staff, so it's often easier to jump to another program to get a promotion. This results in much of the talent being siphoned away from smaller programs.

      Reconsider your options

15 Nov 2020 - PC Network Technician in Chandler, AZ

      Business Outlook

      Pros

If your not in an IT role then it might work

      Cons

Pro to outsource, upper management doesn't understand what is required in classified areas for successful execution of tasks. Only focused on tickets not solutions or details of why it isn't finished. No mid management support. 500:1 headcount metrics do not apply to classified as the processes require more approvals and security. Users don't know the difference between classified and unclassed so they escalate everything to the highest level.

Just a stepping stone for technicians and engineer wannabees

23 Sep 2020 - RF Test Technician in Bwi Airport, MD

      Pros

Awesome people to work with! Lots to learn for someone who wants to.

      Cons

There's no promotion for technicians. Unless you have a degree, you will always be just a technician. Hence, a career stepping stone. The union (IBEW) discourages hard work. If you wanna do the same thing day after day until you retire and you don't have a degree, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, get a degree and kiss the right butt and you'll go far in this company; upper management is a clubhouse with a secret handshake.

Racial Discrimination Rampant Above Manager Level

13 Feb 2020 - Program Manager in Linthicum, MD
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Most people are truly focused on doing what is right for the customer and the company. Work culture is generally good. Most employees are at least generally competent. Some are truly outstanding.

      Cons

For at least the last 7 years or so, the company has been so focused on getting more females and African Americans into the upper management ranks (director level) that there has been rampant discrimination against white males. This is an open secret that all management employees that have been at the company for at least 5 years can give many, many examples. White males are consistently told they need to check another box or two from an experience perspective even when the selected candidates don't check the boxes themselves. As a result, the competency level at the director and vice president level has plummeted. The company isn't anywhere nearly as well managed as it was 5-10 years ago.

There are much better companies out there

      24 Sep 2020 - Software Engineering Manager

      Business Outlook

      Pros

descent work life balance if you are in the right group/program

      Cons

Compensation structure is outdated, their performance rating system is purely based on who you know and not much on actual merit. Benefits are pretty bad and there are a lot of frustrations when it comes to upper management and event though the company says it cares about your opinion, they really don't. My ultimate recommendation is that if you can find another company that is within the fortune 500 then you should try at all costs to avoid NG and the defense industry all together.

Great office, terrible work, terrible company

4 May 2020 - Software Engineer in Manchester, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great people in the office who have formed a family through their shared frustrations at management

      Cons

      - Office receives little to no work - Vindictive behaviour of management when ethical concerns are raised. - Send employees regularly across the country needlessly and dismissing mental and physical health concerns raised from such behaviour. - Strict 40 hour work week with inflexible working hours - Offer little to no training except for internal mandatory trianing that is drawn out, outdated and useless to most of the staff working in the company. - Most of your time at this job will be sat staring at a monitor waiting for work. - Upper management do not exist at the site and never visit. Emails will be ignored and calls dodged if you want to get in touch with them.

      2yrs in Engineering

16 Dec 2019 - Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The people are mostly hard workers. Like any company, the top 30% show up and get things done! Big company with some benefits, on-site lunch (not free), on-site gym (tiny), on-site basketball court (pretty cool!). Ultimately cool product which helps the Navy! Multiple clubs to join for social events (not free). Christmas week shut down (but you have to use some PTO).

      Cons

No more tuition reimbursement. They have stopped. No more pension. No bonuses for anyone. Not even the performers. Upper management is getting huge bonus (6figures plus!). Management whips in full force! Work 10-12hr days and weekends. SPI and CPI EVMS. Micro management to the finish line!!!Dates are all that matter here. Even if you hit the date, there’s a new one on the horizon. Career growth is determined on others retiring.
