    I worked at Oil Search

    Pros

There is not much to think of except that it was a small company when I joined. Good for building experience on the floor, i.e in the field running around and making things happen, opportunities most big companies would not otherwise give you.

    Cons

The salary is very bad with performance reviews not getting any action from recommendations. There is a culture of suppression and the HR couldnt be any worse. They treat you like dirt and their is a degree of segregation with national employees (Papua New Guineans). The average salary is below market rate and their cost cutting severely impacted investment in the knowledge economy of its empployees. The company... tries to potray itself to be an organisation that its not. You have 10 people doing the same task...so either they pass the bark or they feel you have stepped on their foot when it comes to job execution.

    Advice to Management

Please change the upside down pyramid structure you have on your management. There are too many chiefs and very few indians. The patronising style of management with you townhalls should be a bit more creative, its insulting to have the same slides on you powerpoints with different colours without addressing the real issues for employees. Most of the Papua New Guinean employees in the technology side of the... operation will be looking for greener pastures and this retention schemes you have is somewhat dranconian and ancient, please think up something creative if you are going to retain them.

    Pros

Good place to gain experience but you will have to use initiative, a lot of initiative and self motivation.

    Cons

Very poor salary and employee benefits for citizen employees, especially for engineers

    Advice to Management

Reward you engineers well and keep people that will produce results
