I have been working at OpenMarket full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Good benefits. Enjoyable day to day work.

    Cons

Engineering is not valued and actively undermined by large parts of the organization. Operations department is trying to take over the company without trying to understand technical challenges.

I have been working at OpenMarket full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good overall culture, friendly and talented group of people. If you are willing to bend your back and take the initiative, you will find tons of opportunities for your professional growth. Management is good at identifying talent and providing carrier growth opportunities. Good work life balance. Flexible work from home policy. Generous PTO and sick day policy. Good medical plan. Good transportation benefits. Free food and other fringe benefits.

    Cons

Recent relocation to Queen Anne made commute from South and East side little inconvenient. Recent voluntary attrition especially in the senior management was mostly filled with internal junior talent, though it is a good strategy to encourage and promote the internal talent, since it was done in a short time at a large scale, the short comings from inexperience are felt at layman level.

I have been working at OpenMarket full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to wax and wane about how much more you’d make if you left for another job. Then you remember you’re coasting so you settle for the loud, new open office and free food.

    Cons

Remaining leadership leans on less talented workers to work insane hours to patch operational holes. Almost all the people with deep tech stack knowledge are gone. Not a single competent TPM left and the remaining developers are googling errors. All the hopes and dreams ride on one primary bread and butter customer and “innovative” thinking means spinning asks from sales into faux gold.

    I worked at OpenMarket full-time

    Pros

Good benefits. Slow pace. Easy hours.

    Cons

Management is flying out of this place because senior leaders provide no direction and are very political and fake. If you are a BFF with the CEO you post a 5 star glowing review. If you're a real employee you are waiting and milking the benefits. People are being promoted to fill voids left by departing managers.

    OpenMarket Response

The industry is changing, and with it our company is growing and progressing. The trust we have built as a market leader, as a partner and as an employer is something I’m very proud of and will continue to focus on. We are excelling, growing in market share, product effectiveness and client satisfaction which is helping attract the best and brightest in the business. I hope to welcome many more talented people to help us on our path to achieving our ambitious plans. Jonathan Morgan, CEO, OpenMarket

I worked at OpenMarket full-time for more than a year

    Pros

High level of autonomy on how you work. Great for a first job in London before you move onto a better place.

    Cons

Salaries are far below market rate with management refusing to acknowledge this as the case stating that they've done market research. Senior management push out a completely new initiative every few months without completing the initial one. There was talk of getting new starters to write positive reviews online in a recruitment meeting. Refusal to acknowledge the fact that we've lost 60-70% of our UK engineering department. This coincided with zero recruitment to engineering for a 15 month period. Senior management are happy to outsource projects instead of rehiring developers in the current office. Almost no career prospects as higher level positions are closed off for more outsourcing. An almost empty office as most seats are now vacant and unlikely to be filled.

Thanks for review. I genuinely appreciate getting feedback of all types – it’s impossible to improve without it. Please reach out to me at jonathan.morgan@openmarket.com if you’d like to discuss further.

    Cons

Job is very challenging, sometimes you will have to skip leaving early Sometimes it feels that the Mexico office is under the radar and unappreciated

Thanks for your review. I am always impressed with people, like yourself, who welcome a challenge but also enjoy the finer things in life! I have been working at OpenMarket full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good benefits, and when they've been poor, management listened to employees and improved them. The company has a strong committment to career development, and managers are supportive of this. A very collaberative work environment, especially within all teams I've worked with. Management seeks to identify and address issues. The recent change in senior personel has been far less disruptive than it could have been, and is being used as an opportunity to take stock of where the company is in all areas.

    Cons

There are issues with cross-functional communication, which can be very frustrating. It appears as though some dev teams have little direction and are not delivering clear business value. There has been lots of change recently, which has been challenging.

I have been working at OpenMarket full-time

    Pros

Everyone is respectful of others' opinions. The company is small enough that you get to make a real impact, and contribute significantly both to software design and implementation. Very little "red tape". You can really get stuff done. Great culture too, with lots of outings, and a "no jerk" hiring policy (no matter how good their tech skills might be).

    Cons

Honestly not much to say here.

I have been working at OpenMarket full-time

    Pros

Great culture at OpenMarket. People are really helpful and it is a healthy environment to work in. A lot of freedom for software developers regarding the tools that can be used. It is new in Guadalajara so there are new faicilities and there is a lot of growth opportunities

    Cons
