I worked at Optus full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Campus with all the amenities, flexible working, strong leadership with KBR and pockets of very switched on individuals

    Cons

No strategy which means ad hoc decisions are made without adequate consideration, loose controls and governance, twice a year redundancies (May & Oct), declining profitability so staff investment is limited, abysmal HR practices

    Advice to Management

Getting staff united behind a common set of vision and values is imperative before chasing the next GA or DA. Without a shared purpose, why would staff bring their best version of themselves to work each day?

I have been working at Optus full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits, Work from home flexibility, friendly people

    Cons

Roles change every few months not uncommon, minimal or no HR guidance - they only enact restructures not support employees

    Advice to Management

Communication all the way vertical and horizontal - a lot of times it’s like the left hand doesn’t know what the right is doing which looks like wasted resource and effort to employees

I worked at Optus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good work life balance, unlimited sick leaves, good pay, good location.

    Cons

Bad management, and bad leverage of talent/resources. Power/Political play exists but not visible not upper management. Managers at Virgin Mobile tend to only promote people they like, not who have real capabilities.

    Advice to Management

Be aware of the leader positions you currently have and make sure that they are professional, do not promote favouritism, make emotional decisions, and value real work values, rather perceptions of work values. The downfall reason of economy or any business at all is the bad leadership or management, getting paid too much, yet add little to no values.

I have been working at Optus part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Really good, positive environment to work in. Great benefits at optus and other companies great discounts.

    Cons

Will only give you 10 hour part time contract so if you underperform they have the ability to drastically cut shifts.

    Advice to Management

Well done on the environment you have created

I have been working at Optus full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great people, if you know the right people you'll get ahead quickly, work life balance can be OK - varies between teams, direct management are great - they're in the same boat as you, long tenure, discounts on telecommunications services,

    Cons

Dinosaur aged systems, who you know not what you know, can be extremely slow due to controlling leadership, lots of peacocking, collaboration by mantra only, long tenure, top level heavy, not actually a equal opportunity business

    Advice to Management

Look through the peacocking & you'll see who's actually doing great work for the business. Listen to more than just yourself or your boss - there's great talent & ideas about
