I have been working at Optus for less than a year

    Pros

Great vibe working on the Optus Campus at Macquarie Park in Sydney. Employees have access to cafes and food outlets including health and wellbeing services (GP and Physio). Transport services with bus connections to the City and Epping and new services like Keoride ride sharing also operating in Macquarie Park.

    Cons

Nothing to report at this time

    Advice to Management

Continue to push the boundaries on transitioning to new ways of working supporting Agile / squad focussed teams.

I worked at Optus full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Overall pretty good product discounts. Non-financial benefits are pretty reasonable overall even if they are lacking in some areas compared to other corporates. Pretty good working environment at the Sydney HQ in Macquarie Park. Pretty solid organisation, policies and process around the basics like HR. The majority of staff buy into the historical corporate culture of customer focus despite the structural...

    Cons

Remuneration is variable across the business but for many is significantly below market rate, particularly the longer your tenure. The organisation has always suffered under structure and process, silos and turf wars but the current cycle of redundancies and micromanagement at all levels has amplified the stress around this as departments go into battle over headcount and try to avoid and shift blame. Tunnel vision...

    Advice to Management

The toxic culture of blame needs to be nipped in the bud - through leadership from the top... and forward thinking that moves beyond selling the family china through constant layoffs is urgently needed to ensure the business still has the talent it needs in the transformations it has to undertake. It's also well beyond time to move performance reviews to global best practice standards. Most of all - stop blaming...

I worked at Optus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great environment at Macquarie Park. Good working conditions with flexible work options. Great people, technology and products. Challenger spirit!

    Cons

Salaries are a little low compared to Telstra or big banks. In 2017 and 2018 there were an usually high number of restructures. Hopefully this settles soon.

    Advice to Management

In 2017 and 2018 there were major restructures impacting consumer customer and marketing every 6 months. This needs to settle so managers and teams can perform!

    I worked at Optus full-time

    Pros

The Macquarie Park campus is very good. There are still some great people working at Optus

    Cons

Increasingly dominated by a clique of SingTel robots. Constant "restructuring", which is really a thinly-veiled excuse to downsize Australian employees and replace them with third-rate outsourced staff. Flagrant abuse of 457 Visas, via the outsource companies.

    Advice to Management

Despite what the CIO was heard to say, it IS possible to find decent senior management in Australia.

I have been working at Optus full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - The campus: among all the greenery it has coffee shops, cafes, a gym etc, it's truly a lovely place to work. - The culture/vibe: I really love the culture here, it's a great vibe. Digital/Marketing based areas especially are very enjoyable to work in. Plus, everyone is really nice in this place! Meaningful work: as a graduate, I rotate every 6 months and I honestly learn so much in those six month increments - I actively...

    Cons

    - Location: it is a bit of a trek to get to head office in Macquarie Park, though Optus does run an express bus from Wynyard and Epping which makes it a lot easier.

    Advice to Management

Higher level of management engages employees at least once a week in an open Q&A.

I have been working at Optus full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

My experience at Optus has always made me feel as though my efforts would be recognised by my peers and my leaders. There are many ways to do this within the business from simple thanks to formal reward and recognition programs, and this is encouraged. The focus on development and ownership of individual development plans to grow a real career within Optus or to prepare for career growth externally is a major part of...

I have been working at Optus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Attracted to the brand, I joined Optus on a 457 visa as an immigrant and through Optus acting as my business sponsor I have recently achieved permanent residency status. Without Optus firstly identifying my talent via their acquisition specialists and continuing to support me throughout my career this would've not been possible. I am very much looking forward to a bright future of possibilities and growth within this...

    Cons

Restructuring twice a year impacts morale. Always surprised by the pedigree of individuals that often get selected. Slow to get new IT systems and customer systems for use. Office in Macquarie Park can be diffulcult to get to and expensive with Tolls Depending on role you may have to pay for parking which can be expensive. Career development is not focused on enough.
