I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent salary, some good people, training

    Cons

Typical blame culture. Zero harm... who do you think you are fooling. Unless you are ready to completely remove humans from your business, there will always be harm. How does Origin apply zero harm policy to the environment? Managers who pretend they've never worked in the field calling shots from their padded office. Origin energy is so safe that they can't negotiate a gas bottle delivery to my house on account of... my steep driveway. But their contractors can do it no worries. That speaks volumes for their integrity. Lots of hype, ups and downs. Typical gas company at the mercy of their shareholders in a losing market.

    Advice to Management

Grow a set and stop pretending that you're anything other than a dirty gas company. Just get back to business like you used to and forget about trying to earn some social licence. It's never going to happen.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people, okay management. Fun and exciting role PLENTY of career development opportunities

    Cons

A few years ago there was a huge shift from being well looked after as an employee to being second to the customers. 800+ redundancies and loss of many benefits and the proposal of 0-1% pay increases (as opposed to 3-4% previous years).

    Advice to Management

Try to remember people before customers. Customers are important, but your people are more so. Without people, you don’t have a service for your customers.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Intelligent people, good corporate culture, great benefits.

    Cons

Over staffed in Finance which has developed into a pedantic, perfectionist culture. Can take a long time to get simple things finished. Also career progression tends to be slow.

    Advice to Management

Improve your performance management system and develop succession planning.

I have been working at Origin Energy full-time

    Pros

Flexible work life balance and salary is higher than industry standard

    Cons

There's a very distinct lack of management across the business, and you find a lot of managers give in to request which doesn't always benefit the business. The high volume of workload is also not ideal. The business itself is too relaxed and not enough structure or processes in place.

    Advice to Management

Understand business requirements and the impacts it has to other staff's workload.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible working. No pressure to deliver anything, ever. Great for making money if you're a contractor/supplier, due to total chaos and incompetence.

    Cons

Toxic culture. Incompetent, Machiavellian management. Technically incompetent engineers. Constant organisational change that only results in moving the incompetent people around, whilst all the good people rapidly head to the exit door. Total lack of coherent systems and processes. Actively discriminate against men.

    Advice to Management

Sack every level of management and then resign yourselves. Sell your gas business to someone who knows what they're doing.
