    Pros

Mature approach to flexible working. Excellent office workplace in Brisbane. Some friendly and honest colleagues. Good flow of interesting work and change

    Cons

Regular company restructures and cost-saving drives. Senior management jostling and inter-department fighting. Short-term outlooks

I have been working at Origin Energy

    Pros

Salaries are great. People at lower levels are nice. Site based work. Safety focus is fantastic.

    Cons

Processes are immature . Senior management just don't get along. Systems are horrible, very clunky.

    Advice to Management

Restructuring every year results in significant disengagement.

I worked at Origin Energy for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great immediate and parallel working teams. Reasonable work life balance, probably above average compensation for the industry. Wide exposure to some very interesting clients.

    Cons

Senior management live in their own world, the only exception I would say is the Energy Markets CEO who is a personable person and knows what he is doing. Career advancement opportunities have no relationship to professional capabilities, but rather belonging to the various cliques which are extremely territorial, generally not competent, and very quick to take ownership of the initiatives and hard work of others.

    Advice to Management

You can cut costs be reducing the management staff that focus on preparing powerpoints and add little real value to the company.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people here are great and the environment is friendly. What I miss the most about working here is the friends I've made over the years. The work is rewarding, despite the market downturn. Good pay for the work you do.

    Cons

The P&C team here are the worst bunch I've ever had to deal with. With only their best interest at heart, they are conniving and manipulative and anyone who isn't in senior management should not trust them. This team works to benefit themselves and not the company. The whole team should be razed to the ground. Also, there aren't many career opportunities and whenever a position comes up, they tend to look 'outside'... and overlook the talent they already have.

    Advice to Management

Look harder to see who the ones working 'behind the scene' and reward them. The ones that float about their 'glories' are not the ones that put in the hard work. Also, don't be fooled by P&C, they do the 'song and dance' just to hide their true intentions.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The actual workforce are really good people and a great team. The Coffee Shop at the office has great coffee. There are enough vending machines in the office - not many other pro's.

    Cons

Middle and Senior Management need to realise that the workers are the ones doing the job, not them. Meetings rarely achieve anything - and there are way too many of them. Workers are underpaid, under staffed and expected to do everything while middle management reap all the credit.

    Advice to Management

Reward the workers. Give credit where it is due. Don't over work your people. Respect people and treat them like human beings - not the number that you currently see them as. Stop favouring the "golden children" and recognise the people actually doing the work. Look at restructuring the managers - not the workers.

I worked at Origin Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The energy sector is certainly an interesting place to be - lot's going on and it's undergoing immense change. Origin is a key player in the industry.

    Cons

Too many to list here - but here's a few: - Inbred management - virtually no senior management has come from outside the organisation so things tend to get done the "Origin Way" - Horrible culture - wrong people being promoted into senior roles (see previous point) - Hypocrisy around renewable energy (public face versus internal view) - especially since the purchase of Eraring

    Advice to Management

Needs a clean out of senior management and some fresh ideas
