Pros

Great training in the first 6 months. If you are interested in a full time career in recruitment this is a solid business to work for......this is where it ends.

Cons

The business has a toxic environment, The staff turn over is probably sitting at around 80%, (there was a joke when I was there that if someone was in their first 6 months in the business there was no point talking to them as they would probably leave) They don't pay bonuses because profit needs to be put towards setting up new offices overseas (i.e India, which failed) They promote people to management but their role is only to count KPI's Very long hours I was made to feel that if I left I would ruin my career, well turns out I've become very successful. The 18 months I spent at Page felt like a life time and the 3 years I have spent in the company I now work for has flown by.

PageGroup Response

Hi there, I’m sorry to hear about your perception of PageGroup. I would welcome the chance to discuss your experience with you and address any residual issues, as we are on a constant journey to excellence, and feedback of any kind is most welcome. Just to correct a couple of factual inconsistencies in your feedback; - as you will see from our published results, we have run a very profitable business for many years and have never not paid out bonuses in ANZ due to investments in new markets such as India, which has indeed not failed, rather is an expanding team in a highly prospective emerging market - staff turnover is nowhere near 80% and is declining significantly since our 2015 restructure that sees a rejuvenated and energised management team in place To clarify, our lucrative discretionary bonus scheme is based on personal and team performance and is designed to over reward over achievement. We also pride ourselves on offering highly competitive base salaries and some of the best rewards in the industry; including comprehensive benefit programs, ‘High Flyers’ trips abroad for high achievers and regular company funded team social events. Whilst it would appear your experience with the business was not positive, I would like to highlight that over the last 40 years the business has grown purely organically (i.e. without a single acquisition) from two consultants above a launderette in London to almost 6000 staff across 35 countries, which has only been achieved by hiring and retaining many of the best consultants in the industry (5,998 of them to be precise). I myself joined PageGroup 19 years ago and have since worked in and managed businesses in Melbourne, Sydney, Dubai, Doha, Johannesburg, Casablanca and Paris and enjoyed a career path that none of our competitors locally or globally could dream of offering. I can assure you that I have enjoyed all of those 19 years and benefited greatly from them personally and professionally. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any further feedback. Thanks, Matt.

Pros

Hard to think of many, but I guess if you manage to slug it out with the endless and mindless pressure to hit meaningless KPI's then there is the opportunity for career development. This generally comes through everyone above you leaving and you being the last person standing, but it can offer progression none the less.

Cons

The list is long and distinguished: poor management, a poor brand, dreadful working practices - "old school'' fixation with meaningless KPI's, lack of flexibility re work life balance (including an expectation to give up your evenings and weekends for pointless client entertainment activities) AND to cap it all off for all your hard work and long hours slogging it out against better competitors with a better brand and stronger leadership, you are "rewarded" with the single worst bonus structure in the industry based purely on a 'discretionary" basis. Which effectively mean if you're liked by management, you are well rewarded, if you're not, then you're utterly ripped off. And on many an occasion even if you're well liked by management, then you end up getting ripped off.

Pros

Good training when you first start, exposure to lots of different companies. Things you can expect from any large recruitment company.

Cons

Minimum 8 to 6 hours, usually longer. Impossible to reach targets and once you do reach them they manipulate you out of your bonus. Extremely high turnover, expect to see at least one of your colleagues in your close knit team walking out the door each month or each week in the wider business. Way too many chiefs, and no one has any decision making power. They push you down the career path that suits the needs of the business, and not the career path you want.
