Pros

Free bread and some great coworkers

Cons

Jon the owner is not capable of any suggestions. Long history of firing anyone that doesn't absolutely suck up to him. He puts on a friendly face to any potential investors, customers, and for YouTube; outside of that he is an angry person. He has no understanding that the employees are human and working 15 hour shifts with no breaks is rough. You can be written up for not being able to work their "mandatory" overtime. Terrible place to work.

Dear Former Employee, I am very sorry to hear your feedback that Proof was not a great place for you to work. I want to own the fact that I likely contributed to that in some way. To clarify, I really dislike terminating employees. It is likely the absolute worst part of the responsibilities of ownership. I am very concerned with the idea that you were made to feel that disagreeing with me came with punitive risks. We should be able to disagree openly and have dialogue. At the end of the day we still need to agree on a course and be sure to work in a way that keeps things progressing, but I believe that disagreement is healthy and can lead to positive break throughs. I also believe that employees can often see pain points more clearly than management can. In reviewing the timing of your feedback I would like to acknowledge that I definitely needed to do a lot more to connect with all of the staff while you were employed. While I don't consider myself an angry person, I could understand why I would be received that way if you primarily heard about issues I might have had indirectly, and without the necessary context. One thing is clear, I did a lot to distance myself from individual relationships at work in 2022 and 2023. The process of moving from the garage was quite traumatic for me, and in that time my daughter was diagnosed with a life shortening neurological disorder and my mom passed away. All of these events rocked my world. I had spent years working on our production line practically without ceasing and in the time you were with us I realized that I needed to rebalance my own life in order to more effectively lead. I am genuinely sorry for the disconnect that you had in your relationship with me. Fast forward to today, we are working on striking the right balance between our administrative and financial responsibilities for Proof and our relationships with our staff. Amanda and I are delegating more administrative work so that we can re-involve ourselves especially with our production staff. We acknowledge that it is not possible to achieve the culture we are seeking if we put up walls and shield ourselves from the full range of experiences with our staff. If you ever want to offer your feedback in person and reconnect, please reach out to me and I would be happy to treat you to a coffee or a meal so that I can hear directly from you and improve Proof for those who follow. Sincerely, Jon Przybyl Co-Owner

Pros

Co-workers were passionate, dedicated, and hardworking.

Cons

The heartfelt instagram posts and glossy newspaper articles are 100% lies. The owners are manipulative, greedy, and lack any notion of personal or business integrity. There are major narcissist vibes - beware. Male owner has weird views about women, minorities, LGBTQ, and the government. Sell themselves as an inclusive community but will absolutely stab you in the back.

Dear Former Employee, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Admittedly, this one has been very hard to process ever since it was posted quite some time ago. All I can say is that I am sorry you had a bad experience working with us. Based on the timeline of your review, it seems you were with us pretty soon after our transition from being a garage bakery, and it was a challenging time to say the least. I am happy that you found community amongst your coworkers. That is a great feature of working at Proof. Proof has team members from all walks of life. I want to unequivocally state that we do not discriminate based on gender, sexual orientation, or race as your comment might imply. Rather, at Proof we are committed to our work of making great bread and pastries for the community. Many bakeries and kitchens are filled with minorities. Both Amanda and I are children of immigrants and we love any opportunity to learn from team members who come from different backgrounds. In fact, we believe that food is a bridge for people coming together from many walks of life. Proof has a nice balance of men and women represented at all levels of the company. Our first ever promoted manager was female, and women have been leading within Proof ever since. Amanda and I are equal partners, and the company could not be where it is today without her unique perspective certainly in ways informed by her identity. Proof has collaborative, positive and productive relationships with our city and county government. I’m not sure if that is what you mean by weird, but we strive for Proof to be a welcoming environment for all who wish to share in our values in bread-making. If you were led to believe anything different in your time, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can have a direct clarifying conversation and you can be fully heard. I must admit that Proof has a number of flaws. Specifically, during the time that you were employed we were going through dramatic changes, and this absolutely led to more disconnect between us and our staff than we wanted. Perhaps this led to some of the misunderstanding that led to your judgment. I would love an opportunity to sit down and conduct an exit interview despite the fact that some time has passed. We don’t want anyone at Proof to feel this way, and I would like to get to the bottom of what we may have done to contribute to your sentiment. Again, I have been deeply troubled to read about your takeaways in working at Proof. They do not match with out intention for the company. Thank you for voicing your concerns, and please know that we value your contribution to our brand. Don’t hesitate to reach out and clarify some of these issues. Sincerely, Jon Przybyl Co-Owner

Pros

Passionate crew members, compelling company mission statement

Cons

Sorely lacking in communication and structure. Employees are left to make quick decisions on the fly and are then chastised in front of everyone when our attempts to keep things running without proper leadership doesn’t work. They continually promise raises and better work conditions, only to change the goalposts and kick the can further down the line. Any suggestions for improvement that are brought to the owners by employees are ignored or met with punitive measures.
