I worked at Public Health Management full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I want to say I really enjoyed working at PHMC, but I think employees experience vary by department. I was fortunate to work in a great department, with a great managing director. PHMC has so many programs, departments and affiliates that no employees experience is the same. The benefits are really good, the PTO is generous, health insurance is not bad and we get life insurance. There is also a good amount of work-life balance and flexibility, particularly in my department. During COVID, the organization has been flexible, pivoted to remote work and seemingly re-asses the situation. For example, staff were supposed to go back in July, but they realized that is not feasible so they shifted the schedule so that staff will come back in September. It is clear that the company is genuinely concerned about employees well being, which is good to know. There is a lot of valid criticism of PHMC on here, and it does seem like the organization is trying to improve and engage employees around these issues, which I think is important. The work environment (when we are in the office) is flexible. All employees have laptops and we are encouraged to move around with our laptops if needed. There are various quiet spaces throughout the office to get work done when you just need to separate yourself from the open office plan, which is great.

    Cons

Nonprofit life can be tough - especially when you work at one that is very corporate like PHMC. Despite the corporate nature of PHMC, pay is low, even for non-profit standards. While the benefits do kind of offset the low pay, the pay scale needs to be updated especially with the high cost of living that continues to rise. Also, while I like the CEO, I have found that the over million dollar salary to be kind of outrageous when so many of us do so much work for under 50k a year. The IT department has some great people working for them, but it seems like as the company scales, IT does not scale with it, which causes issues in terms of getting things done. They just started using a new invoicing system that has a ton of issues that they made live at the beginning of the fiscal year. It feels very irresponsible to have brought on a problematic system during a fiscal time crunch. I wish they would have consulted more of us who process invoices to mitigate some of the issues we are experiencing. HR is difficult to deal with and it can be often challenging to get direct answers to your question, and even if you do get an answer, sometimes it is not correct. It also seems like they change policies and do not inform staff until staff inquire about something.

I have been working at Public Health Management full-time

    Pros

The kids can be a joy, and the staff are there to help one another.

    Cons

The administration is an absolute joke. Never there when issues arise. Some actually berate and belittle their staff members. Staff have been hemorrhaging from this [dis] organization for months due to such lack luster "leadership".
