    Streamline improvements needed at all levels and people will leave the company if improvements within are not improved. Staff spread thin amongst territories making it difficult

    I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Good people, technically strong. Good products. Some very unique and high quality product areas. Stable company despite re-orgs. Some roles/areas are better than others. Benefits ok.

    Cons

    Poor and removed decision making. Essentially no productive marketing due to constant turnover resulting in low staff and lack of consistent progress. Poor understanding of the core business by management is very concerning. The high turnover and continual hiring of upper management with little or no experience in companies similar to Qiagen just underscores this. The company is run by clinical executives (from Biomerieux, Roche) yet 80% of Qiagen’s US base business is in research. Only lower level employees come with research/life science experience from companies like (life tech, biorad, sigma, Illumina) and upper management tends to run Qiagen as a predominantly clinical company. The high executive turnover does not seem to point to the success of this strategy. Qiagen employees with solid experience in the industry and the company are ignored and directed to work in inefficient and counterproductive ways by inexperienced transitional management out of touch with the business. The attempt to focus on the new while abandoning primary business areas is proving to be unsuccessful as the base business degrades rapidly while the new business moves way too slowly to compensate.

    Great Benefits and overall resources. Great people and mid management.

    Cons

    Pay is less then market value across the board. Just went through second re-org in only a few years. Unreal expectations in commercial operations. Too much turn over.

    Pros

    Supportive and friendly people, products are high quality and well known. Because HQ is in Germany, some career paths are not available in the UK.

    Cons

    You may get a better base salary elsewhere. On the whole the package is good.
