I worked at QIAGEN full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good salary, nice lay-off package

    Cons

    - Too many political games - Most managers do not care about their employees - Yearly waves of lay-offs with no other reason than cost cuts with no understanding of the value of the people laid-off - Progressive ideas are either swept under the rug or stolen (to surface months or a year later) - Actual achievements are rarely recognized though the company is making a big fuss out of it - Corporate areas and teams are praised too much for nothing (eg. the shop takes precedence in front of R&D) - Too many incompetent persons promoted in high level positions - In many teams home-office is taboo and mentioning it makes you the enemy

I worked at QIAGEN full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pension and benefits (gym payments, fruit in office etc), flexible working hours

    Cons

Favouritism is rife. Promotion cycle unclear and managers show a lot of bias. Very high pressure with tight deadlines. Staff pushed to work overtime and often through lunch to get work done. Low salary for such a company and considering the high stress levels. Very uneven work distribution. A lot of people stuck in old habits, not open to new ideas. Culture can feel very toxic and "dog eat dog".

I worked at QIAGEN part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great people and atmosphere in the QA department lead by a inspirational leader. Flexible work hours (I worked 3 days a week 06:00 to 14:00). Contributory free pension, healthcare and dental. Plenty of opportunity for fun and socialization. The staff are the greatest asset

    Cons

If I had a con it would be the hour long dinner time, I would prefer a shorter lunch time and finish a little earlier each day.
