I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great culture good benefits, direct hire sales reps gets to pick a Mercedes as an option when choosing your company car. Gas card and company car comes with no out of pocket expenses to you. Great work, life balance if you know how to manage your time.

    Cons

Training program could be better. Too many people working on one account. This needs to be streamlined.

    Advice to Management

Streamline the new hire training program to make it more efficient. Company wide directories would be an excellent idea to give new hires!!!

I worked at QIAGEN full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People - great friendly teams prepared to go the extra mile but decision making and teams are not supported properly by senior management free beverages supportive co-workers

    Cons

Blame culture, very pressurised environment Cultural improvements lasted six months - all positive outcomes obliterated Too many senior managers in development who don't get their by ability Poor retention of anybody above average or willing to make decisions Large numbers of mediocre staff Career opportunities limited no work/life balance on key CDx projects Poor / no direction from site management...

    Advice to Management

Prioritise projects rather than robbing from one project to satisfy demands on another Start delivering quality on all projects rather than just hitting milestones and ensure all work is accomplished rather than relying on swift talking and persuasion understand why experienced staff are leaving and address the issues properly

I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Benefits and the work life balance good depending on the department. There are a few excellent managers who serve as mentors.

    Cons

Pay is dramatically below the industry standard. Many within management have been promoted into the role without any management experience just because they needed to find a position for them. Scientists are not as well respected within the company as they were in the past. The North American branch has large layoffs twice a year (summer time and at Christmas). Gifts and parties are nearly eliminated and the atmosphere...

    Advice to Management

Eliminate the many layers of management and reward the employees doing the dirty work and investing countless hours. Listen to the feedback from high performing employees and follow up with the high performers who continually leave the organization to correct root problems.

    I worked at QIAGEN full-time

    Pros

Work Life Balance is great. but that also means your co-workers are not pulling their weight.

    Cons

Too much hierarchy and no incentive to think outside the box. If you are used to operating like a robot, executing on exact instructions, by all means, join this company, but dont expect to be rewarded for anything you do. Oh and did I mention that they pay MUCH BELOW market? Jeez, we live in San Francisco, one of the most expensive areas of the country!

    Advice to Management

Wake up and start operating like a startup. That's the key to success, not getting lost in bureaucracy. it's all great to talk about operational efficiency but you are not going to cut costs every November by laying off people, only losing momentum and productivity.
