I have been working at Queensland Treasury full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting work, work on large projects and with senior staff even as a junior employee.

    Cons

Chronically under resourced. Not possible to complete all work within work hours. Employees discouraged from keeping timesheets so flex time difficult to take.

    Advice to Management

Consider resourcing or scope of work

    I worked at Queensland Treasury

    Pros

Flex time. No other pros that I can think of.

    Cons

Terrible work environment. High turnover of employees, and everyone is more interested in the title they hold than the actual knowledge or experience they should posses.

    Advice to Management

Needs a serious shake up of organizational culture

    Neutral Outlook

    I worked at Queensland Treasury

    Pros

Relaxed environment, friendly genuine people, culture of information sharing, generous study support and flexibility for study purposes - i was told it was ok to study at work in my downtime - where else would you get that?

    Cons

No consideration of career development by management or further opportunities unless you are a politician (politically savvy). No performance management process (i think they are trying to change this). But - this is not every department. Others are very good and mindful of career development. Most days I did not have enough to do and was very bored and unfulfilled.

    Advice to Management

Pay more and value career development of young people more - otherwise they will keep leaving like they are!

I worked at Queensland Treasury full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good conditions, good pay, easy work

    Cons

Accessing conditions can be hard depending on your manager. Although you have conditions, they may not always be available.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately, the problem is management so telling them to sack themselves is the only advice I could give

I worked at Queensland Treasury full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good Salary, potential for great flexibility in hours

    Cons

Untalented management. They seem to be good at "Saying the words" but management appear to be too stupid to understand what the words mean. As an example, there was a complaint about calls not being resolved quickly enough - the answer seemed to be look in a book, book says "get an Incident Manager" so that was interpreted as appoint a single persona as "Incident Manger". When it was pointed out to them that a single...

    Advice to Management

Sack yourselves, its about the only thing that will fix the place. Failing that, understand what a budget is and that hours are a budgeted commodity. You have x number of full time employees so you will get x hours work provided they are managed properly. The approach of cutting out flexi time so that they appear at work does not get more work done. Your own statistics demonstrate that.

I have been working at Queensland Treasury

    Pros

Treasury is one of two 'central agencies' (along with Premiers/Prime Ministers department) that sit at the heart of the government. Treasury provides a consultancy role to government, advising it on how to raise revenue and how and where to spend taxpayer's money. The work is fulfilling because you know you are helping the community by contributing to sustainable economic and financial policies which will shape the...

    Cons

While the pay levels are the same as the rest of government, opportunities for progression are not as readily available in Treasury because there are more long serving employees. However, this is offset by the fact that working at Treasury is a good stepping stone for more senior roles in other departments and is generally the government department most respected in the private sector.

    Advice to Management

Provide more equity between function and pay with line agencies. Keep up the good work in providing a supportive working environment with good benefits (such as study support) and work-life balance.
