Afternoon shifts are dangerous. Management is toxic.
Pros
- Good view of beach - Most staff are very nice and cheerful - Close to public transport - Cafe on corner is nice - Finishing at midday or starting at 3pm is fun.
Cons
You are alone at night and they don't care. - All staff leave by the afternoon. You are now maintenance, cleaning, managing, and entirely in charge the hotel. - NO BREAKS FOR AFTERNOON SHIFT. You are alone with nobody to relieve you, so you are expected to still be available. You must answer calls and assist guests during your break that you are not paid for. - No security. Scarborough is a dangerous area and you are expected to do rounds of the parking lot alone at night away from public view. You have no emergency call button, no light, no security person, no support. You are the only staff on the premises. - Bad attitude from management. Talking behind your back. Refuse to fix problems, refuse to help you. If you speak up you are likely to be fired. - No maintenance or management on weekends or afternoons. So not only no break, but now you have no way to fix problems that you, as reception, are unable to fix, as you are not trained in maintenance. - Understaffed = no leave allowed. You work or you quit, doesn't matter if Christmas or Birthday or Emergency. - Lowest pay they can give you
