I have been working at Rio Tinto full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fantastic salary, great work opportunities in a global business. Can really offer interesting work in a range of fields across many countries and disciplines

    Cons

Very demanding environment with constant change. It requires high emotional resilience. Workloads can be high as the tend to have many initiatives on the go all the time

I worked at Rio Tinto full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good wages, big company, good people working there. Helped a lot of people carve out good careers.

    Cons

Bullied small companies. Care about money and profit over employees and safety. Once were good but squeezed and squeezed employees until most now hate the company and show up just to be paid.

    Advice to Management

If you keep cutting benefits and cheap things that keep employees happy, you are penny wise and pound foolish as these employees will lose so much productivity. IF they know you don't care about them why should they care about the company?

I have been working at Rio Tinto full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay, relaxed work environment, great safety culture and good place to learn and grow.

    Cons

Work-life balance with the 8 days on 6 days off roster. Staying longer duration on site can start getting to your nerves after a while.

I worked at Rio Tinto full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

great organisations, accesses to resources, able to get the job done if you have the support of boss. Generally, if you can do a job that has short wins within a couple of months you get promoted fast.

    Cons

It's a bit of a boys club, very hard to get promoted to managerial positions if you not a tall white male. They try to promote aboriginal and other nationalities where they can, but it essentially operates as a white boys club. You have to be friends with the power brokers to get anywhere but that is the truth about the world we leave in so get used to it.

    I worked at Rio Tinto

    Pros

Good culture, excellent people, highly intelligent management.

    Cons

Not the fault of the company, but the economic climate is leading to a wave of outsourcing and downsizing in the mining sector. Inevitably the larger companies are less agile in making decisions.
