    I worked at SEEK

    Pros

Undoubtedly it was the quality of the people at Seek that made my time there such a memorable experience. There was a unique blend of intelligence, empathy and irreverence that seemed to permeate throughout the place. This generated a culture of performance, trust and respect while at the same time 'taking the ...' The calibre of leaders I got to work with and shadow was exceptional and my learning was exponential. Colleagues became friends organically and this had a lot to do with the agile and collaborative initiatives right across the company. The organisation's commitment to hiring good people was championed consistently by leaders and team members alike. And while a values based culture may have become more homogenous these days, Seek really was a pioneer in its commitment to protecting culture and genuinely prioritising engagement and the welfare of its peeps.

    Cons

I had challenges in handling the company's accelerated growth at the time. Administration support for my role was minimal and combined with an antiquated HRIS, this created a lot of inefficiency. While the company was committed to providing several fun and team based initiatives and celebrations, the practicality of work life balance was difficult to maintain personally. I understand that a number of these challenges have been addressed in the years since.

I have been working at SEEK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Positive and collaborative workplace with mature business leaders and great technical talent. Forward looking and non-complacent. Innovative but practical. Family-orientated with good work-life balance and an amazing culture. Everyone in the digital space in Australia should aspire to working here.

    Cons

Everywhere else will be a disappointment after working here

I have been working at SEEK full-time

    Pros

The culture is superb, providing a really good work/life balance. There's a lot of young creatives with good ideas and the gender balance is very mixed, which is refreshing. Upper management has a really open relationship with staff and there's a lot of opportunities to hear their thoughts and vision.

    Cons

A very reactive work place. They may be a market leader in Australia, but globally they are chasing the competition. Middle management have to much control and give little support to those doing the heavy lifting. There's far to much favourtism given to people who are 'liked' by the right people.

I have been working at SEEK for less than a year

    Pros

    1. The work life balance is excellent. I haven't had trouble fitting in life events during work hours, sometimes even at the last moment. 2. Once you've proven yourself competent to your team for a few months, you can pretty much get direct/indirect funding for any business/tech idea that you have to benefit SEEK and see it implemented. 3. There are a lot of smart people at SEEK. If you want to practice influencing smart people to work on cool ideas, this is the place to do it if you land in the right team and prove yourself (by doing a great job). 4. If you want to learn something new, you usually can take the time for it, but you need to prove yourself first.

    Cons

    1. The St Kilda office location.

I have been working at SEEK full-time

    Pros

Very successful business while maintaining casual and fun culture. No one talks about 'work-life balance', because it's rarely a problem. Management seems to really care about its employees and their well-being. Strong commitment to values as well as results. Consistent business growth creates career opportunities.

    Cons

St Kilda Rd location can be inconvenient. Still not a very large company, so career paths are not always obvious or linear.
