I have been working at SHI International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I think shi has been a great opportunity to grow professionally. Culture is great for a sales organization. People are helpful and the organization strives to win together.

    Cons

With a young sales force there is some degree of micromanaging, but it’s not too bad. Base salary is a tad low.

I worked at SHI International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a sales organization. Many of the other reviews talk about no money or no room for growth, that is simply not true. SHI is one of the very top IT resellers, there is plenty of money to be made just by dropping the SHI name. Sales is sales, you have to go out and find your money. If you are good at what you do, you will have success and climb the latter quickly. If you aren't good at it, the base salary and account base, that is literally given to you when you walk in the door, is decent enough to make a living. Know your worth, and work to raise it. When I left the company, there was no malus in my heart. I had a great manager, a great book of business, and was making good money. Hard-working people all around me were making money too. Sure there were complaints but you will have those when you work for a 10 Billion dollar company. There is free lunch all the time, a killer holiday party, conferences, and so many spiffs to take advantage of you can basically choose what you want to make year over year. Selling anything is hard work, some people just don't want to do the work.

    Cons

Too many free lunches. You will get fat if all you do is sit down, eat for free, and do your work. There are some things that come from the top down that can get in the way of things, but the metrics and busy work given ultimately lead to better numbers. For example, you have a very busy month, you have to pick between making quotes and orders or hitting your dial metric. A simple slap on the wrist is better than missing your number and going hungry. SMB has a Fraternity/Sorority feel to it but 90% of the people in this role are right out of college and this culture has to be part of the plan. The coffee in the break room is awful, bring your own.

I worked at SHI International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place to make friends. Most people there want you to succeed long term.

    Cons

You’re reminded that you’re replaceable. It’s a total grind until you’re there long enough to get legacy accounts = more commission. It can be worth the wait!

Thank you for your feedback. I’m disappointed to hear that anyone feels replaceable within our organization. It should be understood across all leadership at SHI that our success is due to the people within our organization, and I apologize that this was clearly misrepresented to you.

I worked at SHI International full-time

    Pros

Zero! Not even the free lunches provided by the "VENDORS" (not SHI) is worth staying at this joke of a place. They try to brainwash everyone into thinking that it's worth making a 30k base salary because they write us off in after work happy hours with a 2 drink limit that happen maybe once a month. Haha oh and you'll be lucky to even make commission at the low 12.5% of your GM you'll make after working months trying to close a deal! You won’t make anything in commission, so good luck living off of your base salary. You’d be better off working at McDonald’s. I mean seriously...there’s a bunch of children working at this place!

    Cons

All of the above, plus no room for growth whatsoever, once you move “across the street” after a year or so (where they give you get bigger accounts); it’s not even worth it since your base salary stays the same! P.S. If you love drama then this job is for you!

    SHI International Response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our entry level sales compensation package is not only competitive in Austin, but one of the most lucrative in our industry. We are also fortunate to have such a strong reputation in the industry that our partners bring us lunch regularly – a very unlikely benefit anywhere in the fast food industry. We will continue to improve our internal promotion process to provide transparency and constructive feedback as we attempt to give the best opportunities to those with the right attitude and effort – they tend to be the most productive for our customers!

I worked at SHI International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

When I stop to think about the pros of working at SHI, it’s very hard. I do not think there there is anything positive to say about my work experience there. It’s sad to say, that I guess the ONLY positive thing is that sometimes you have an opportunity for a free lunch.

    Cons

TERRIBLE work atmosphere! Extremely clicky work environment, and you’re either in the “in crowd” or not. HORRIBLE management that doesn’t care at all. Very unorganized company that sends extremely mixed messages. Encouraged bulling and harrassment is something that happens at SHI daily, and HR knows all about it. HR is there to serve and protect the company...not their employees. Never confide in them...they can’t be trusted.

I worked at SHI International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They trained me well and prepared me for the professional world. They also have fun company events and optional lunch and learns where you can learn more about the products you sell.

    Cons

Little to no manager accountability. If you kiss up and get in good with your manager you will thrive.

I worked at SHI International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Did well financially and liked working with all managers on my team. Was able to do my own thing for the most part and liked the autonomy.

    Cons

    1) If you are not used to working many hours and putting in the time necessary then SHI is not the place for you. 2) They mostly hire recent college graduates. If over 30 it will be difficult to get hired. 3) Some managers micro manage but most do not. Think this true of any large company.

I have been working at SHI International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Really laid back company Get your year or so experience in and learn to beef up your resume with the notable vendors such as Microsoft, Apple, Dell, Adobe, HP and then find a better career path.

    Cons

Typical Corporate America. A lot of slackers, you won't really get noticed for your hard work. You won't make much money unless you are blessed into an Account Executive role from an established account; but, account execs will never retire because they have the reps do everything...very solid scheme you have to realize
