Pros

Work can be interesting depending on what area you're in. Can be a good stepping stone for better opportunities elsewhere.

Cons

No opportunity for advancement - employees are hired to do a specific role and not given opportunities to learn new skills or advance their careers. Politics run the show here. Quality of work is less important than who you know/who you're friends with. When trying to get cross-team tasks done, efforts to collaborate are drowned out by responses of "That's not my job". Salary is significantly lower than competitors.

Pros

Coworkers are nice because everyone’s underpaid and don’t really care about work, lots of fun small talk on random stuff.

Cons

- Worst pay on the buy side in Toronto and it’s intentional - Huge age discrimination, no respect to young professionals, culture believes young professionals doesn’t deserve better pay - No real investment professional despite looking like there’s lots of CFA Charterholders, no one’s actually interested in investment - Blocks internal promotions intentionally and also assign useless work to stuck junior people so they have less and less chance of hopping to another firm over time - Canadian vs US politics, supposed to be a Canadian firm but all senior folks are in the US
