I have been working at Saipem full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very few valid people even though the best ones already left the company

    Cons

Forget about your career here. Either you know somebody/you are friend with/a relative was /is an executive manager/your boss likes you or your career ends the day you enter here. Typical Italian company where 90 / 95% of the executives are in that position because of the reasons given above (friend with, relative of, lover of etc etc). I worked at Saipem full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The low pace that company usually cherish in the office environment does not generate tremendous workload. Salaries are not the best but far from the worst in the industry. They really care about the safety of the employees, sometimes a bit to much so they spam the office workers about safety policies on the installation sites (wtf). They fully respect their working law obligations so no problems about vacation days,...

    Cons

Italian company with mostly Italians in the Senior management. This is a slow company in more then few fields. Decision making is the slowest of them all. Information flow is extremely bad which slows down decisions even more. Generally they do not care about employees that much, so no extra health insurance, gym, zero education and...

    Advice to Management

You really should invest in your employees otherwise you will end up with 90% of them completely useless which slows you even more.

    I worked at Saipem

    Pros

Good on-the-job learning and career opportunities. Overseas opportunities. Can be flexible on timing. European culture - less patronizing. Pay is good but bonuses are pathetic. You get to work on big projects and I really mean BIG MEGA projects.

    Cons

Progress depends on who are your bosses and if they can pull strings for you. Or whether they even want to. Some bosses do care for your development - and others are close to hopeless. HR management from Singapore side is horrible and inconsistent. Little done to identify and retain the high performers. Can result in substantial deadwood. Poor investment in human capital. Skilled and experienced locals may get overlooked...

I have been working at Saipem full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance. Not much else to add. Skilled people can be found though. Really nothing more positive to be said

    Cons

Hierarchy is bloated. No advancement (unless you are italian). Very low salary. Weak compensation (no payment for overtime, no salary escalation). Low resources. Very very political structure, one way vertical management from Milan to overseas structures, very mafia-like. Management do not value people and skills. No transparency.

    "The Italian is King!"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Saipem full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good company for developing young engineers. Salary is fair in comparison to Saipem's competitors Pension scheme is quite good. Company pays a few percent extra if the employee puts in a certain amount of money. Flexi Friday, as long as you work your contracted hours, employees can finish by 1pm on Fridays!!

    Cons

The Italian is king! They have more opportunities to work in various Saipem locations worldwide and seemingly more opportunities to progress to the "upper echelons"...... My first 4years felt like someone pressed "pause" on my career. However the recent downturn of the oil and gas market brought about the unavoidable "right-sizing" and I've seen my work load diversify and...

    Advice to Management

Managers are meant to lead and manage, don't micro manage! Appraisals are not meant to be "tick-box exercise to please HQ", they are intended for employees to learn about how they have faired over the last year and set objectives for improving on the next year and so on..... Maternity package of some sort should be provided to encourage more women to work for Saipem!!!

    I worked at Saipem

    Pros

Flexibility, minimal supervision as long as work is done Large project that allows great work on many aspect and challenge

    Cons

Minimal advancement opportunity for non-Italian Heavy procedure that doesn't work in Canada Disorganized and poor training

    Advice to Management

Invest more on local employees. Don't be cheap on the local employees who can actually get the work done, don't close the door, and use english.
