I worked at Santos full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Santos staff are well paid and have on site gym facilities.

    Cons

The industry downturn, which shows little signs of abating, has decimated Santos. I was lucky to be there through the growth phase early this decade, when many new.staff were enployed and money was plentiful. Unfortunately estimates of future oil prices were far too optimistic and went unchallenged, and the company virtually risked itz existence on 1 LNG megaproject. Now burdened by massive debt and have slashed a massive amount of jobs.

I worked at Santos full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can work with truly great people, experienced, intelligent and motivated. The company embraces technology. Excellent facilities and a growing base of knowledge across the wide range of 'core' energy business functions. Focused engineering teams and developing internal systems (standards etc). Good remuneration and a pretty generous approach to work / life balance at times (except for peak project needs)

    Cons

Middle management were suspicious of facts or data, turf wars were all the rage. Against a consistent market downturn, the company had a culture built for boom times - huge pays, huge projects causing huge problems. Endless engineering revisions and a focus on engineering first, everything else second. Had a definite 'purple circle' culture. Pervasive feeling of fear, what would happen, who would get cut next? People knew that the executives 'empire building with other peoples cash gambit' was running out of gas (pun intended). Honestly, remember what it felt like when you played musical chairs as a kid, and the anxiety you would get as the music wound down, only a few people left to fight over 1 chair, everyone eying each other waiting for the music to stop. The place felt like that.

    I worked at Santos

    Pros

Get to work on your own project, great people to work with, casual working environment.

    Cons

Entered company during economic downturn, currently laying off a lot of staff and absolute minimum amount of grads where taken on after the internship program.
