I have been working at Shopify full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    • Ability to work from home • Benefits include company stock

    Cons

    • Employees that work from home don't get as many 'perks' as those in the offices

I worked at Shopify full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits package is very good, however it doesn't include vision for some reason.

    Cons

The position of guru is touted as being the perfect stepping stone into the company. I can tell you, flat out, that is a lie. If you don't know someone (have an 'in' with someone from that department) you will not be hired into a new role. Guruing is hard work. The platform changes everyday and you are expected to change with it. New features are expected to be learned (without adequate time to train and practice)....

    Advice to Management

Honestly, gurus need to be listened to. Guruland is drowning because there are way too many merchants and way too many shiny, new features being rolled out everyday. On any given day I could receive up to 10 emails telling us to prepare for new features. Merchants call in expecting gurus to know how to use these things. If we don't have training until the following week how can we effectively help people with new products?...

    Cons

Working Some stat holidays sort of sucks, but you DO get 2.5x your pay for that day.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Shopify full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company culture. I've never seen anything like it. It operates and grows like an organism. Do your job, have high impact and don't betray trust, you will do great here.

    Cons

Support pay is ok, but it's a struggle to make ends meet. Stock price and returns are great but I am saving them for retirement as there is no pension fund.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work and protect the culture!

I have been working at Shopify full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

MASSIVE growth opportunity, great culture/people, impactful work, autonomy

    Cons

Sometimes too much autonomy. It's up to you to show impact, and sometimes it would be nice to have more guidance

I worked at Shopify full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I worked for Shopify for over 3.5 years before quitting at the start of this year. When I started, it had a great company culture and treated its employees with trust and respect. I genuinely felt supported in my growth and didn't ever see myself wanting to leave.

    Cons

    - The culture in the support org has changed from being a truly unique place to work into a typical call centre job where the front line support agents are being squeezed for every drop of output. - They pay well below industry standard for what is actually expected out of employees now, while still trying to sell it as above. - The expectations for roles in the support org are vague and only used to fire people,...

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring for management roles externally or hiring people who don't have any experience with the roles that they're managing. They don't have the context to understand what their actions and decisions mean to people below them.

  9. "Great entry-level, work from home position"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Customer Support Guru in Ottawa, ON

I worked at Shopify full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great entry salary, lots of training, fun and supportive work culture. Great opportunity for remote work (I am one of many employees who worked from home.)

    Cons

Call centre stress and managing multiple chats caused me to burn out quickly. This is a role for people who are very personable and love to be constantly in conversation. It’s definitely a fantastic fit and opportunity for many, just wasn’t the right role for me personally.

I worked at Shopify full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits and hardware is provided to you.

    Cons

Working remotely means your forgotten, and being the first line of support means you deal with a lot of crap from higher level employees. If you don't drink the kool-aid, you're a target right away.

    Advice to Management

Treat your remote gurus better by actually listening to them!!
