I have been working at Sir Robert McAlpine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people most of whom are doing a great job - Great to work for a long established company where the family owners still take such a keen and active influence. Some of the "old ways" are changing now - some for the better - just hope we don't lose the family ethos that we've had for years.

    Cons

Not many - very proud to be part of this organisation - just a shame some of the newer members of senior management don't always listen and they sometimes seem very detached

    Advice to Management

you have new ideas that's a good thing - but you don't always know best.

I have been working at Sir Robert McAlpine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, reasonable & fair dealings and they create a good positive atmosphere for a construction site. Amazing high profile projects to work on and iconic structures. Lots of training opportunities.

    Cons

Work life balance is not really considered but this is the case for most construction firms in London. Pay scale/pay progression through career not made clear which can dissuade younger aspiring engineers to leave.

    Advice to Management

Give the younger generation more of a reason to stay to attract and keep the brightest and best talent within the company instead of training them up and not rewarding them.

I worked at Sir Robert McAlpine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and they will hire anyone

    Cons

No support. Strange company structure with little way to progress within the company. There is no proper job structure or job description. Very poor communication between departments, seems like people are just doing what they like even if they aren’t qualified to do it. Very poor for graduates, they’re basically thrown in at the deep and and it’s sink or swim

    Advice to Management

Better training and proper support for the staff would be a good start.

I worked at Sir Robert McAlpine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Leadership, living company values, culture, amazing range of projects, great people throughout the business

    Cons

Lots of change underway, still need to focus on the one company ethos which can be affected by the regional model (although I believe this is improving)

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing, invest in technology that will enable the back office support functions to work more efficiently in a measurable way. Trust your HR/People function, they're on the right track driving lots of positive change.
