I worked at Slater & Gordon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The core work is good if you're the empathetic type. You will probably become less so after years working in the field though.

    Cons

Not good for law students/law grads - no room for progression Also they tend to pigeon hole lawyers in specific practice groups which is ultimately bad for your careers - imagine being pigeon holed in only one area of law which is at the mercy of legislative reform. I worked at Slater & Gordon part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Fantastic work/life balance with everyone encouraged to leave by 5 - Encouraging managers and senior lawyers - Good work opportunities

    Cons

    - Very slow career progression - Relatively low pay compared to competitors - Work is extremely repetitive and formulaic - No extra compensation for going above what is required and little incentive to put in extra effort - Due to being publicly listed, very risk averse approach to taking on new cases - Lots of good talent goes to waste and people end up leaving to other firms

I have been working at Slater & Gordon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

18 weeks paid maternity leave full pay or 36 at half pay. 10 days of paid leave over Christmas, extra from normal annual leave.

    Cons

Company is scrambling after massive loss. Lots of redundancies and horrible moral and engagement of staff.

I worked at Slater & Gordon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great employee benefits including extra leave, good hierarchy system of management, genuine care for clients and a lot of great staff

    Cons

Sometimes too lenient on lazy staff and pay grades for support staff pretty low, needs more flexible working from home options.
