Awful place full of favoritism and small minds in management

Pros

Many staff provide awesome face to face service, in spite on management hassles and failure to promote from within. The competent front line staff make the most of their resources in many cases in spite of incompetent management hires.

Cons

Employee level of commitment and dedication and capability regularly overlooked when favoritism by management selects a candidate before jobs are even posted. This diminishes the overall motivation of coworkers at every branch.

Pros

The pay Right off freeway/location It's a library with books If you love libraries and books, this place is great.

Cons

Welp, they allow certain staff to behave and speak to people any way they'd like. They are big fans of nepotism. Despite having more women, men keep rising to the top I started in Feb 2019 and on day 2 pointed out a co-worker was being pretty hostile already and that hostility quickly ramped up. At no point did our shared supervisor (I was the "lead" supposedly, but not supervisor to this person) do anything to resolve this issue beyond sit in the same room as us and tell her that her behavior was justified while expecting me to apologize for existing and doing my job (completing tickets, training myself because of lack of training, etc). Instead of properly preparing a long-time employee who had JUST SIX MONTHS PRIOR had problems with the last (and only) black woman to start working in the building to have a black woman come in as her "senior", leadership coddled her insecurities. In addition, another employee in IT had a photo/meme thing on his cubicle wall that was a very clear depiction of a slave being whipped with an awful made up bible quote as the caption. When I complained to my supervisor, and then HR of what had become clear to me was hostile treatment based on race/gender, unequal treatment (from my supervisor at this point), and the whole DEPICTION OF SLAVERY thing... I was fired 4 days later. They knew that I was going to file with the EEOC (I went in and told HR) 3 days prior to my firing and they still walked the taxpayers right into a retaliatory firing lawsuit. They just also happened to fire me on the day that I was scheduled for my onboarding diversity training. They waited until I completed the COMPLETELY USELESS 4-hour class to fire me.

No room to grow

Pros

You do get benefits if you're part time at 20 hours a week. If you have no career aspirations are content with occasional lateral moves within the organization, I’d recommend it as a nice job if you like working in customer service. It’s a relatively safe work environment. Job security is great.

Cons

Little to no room for advancement or growth despite any extra effort you put into your work or into expanding your knowledge base about the organization and the services it provides. Even though current managers & the Director were librarians who were able to work their way up through the ranks, those same women now seem to have instituted a standard of not promoting current employees if they can at all help it. Outside candidates are usually, if not always, chosen for the higher-paying jobs, indicating a sentiment that current employees simply aren't qualified to those same openings, despite their Sno-Isle experience. On their employment home page Sno-Isle claims to provide "...continuing opportunities for training and development, so you can explore a career that will be vital and interesting for years to come." This doesn’t appear true as I can say that I’ve rarely, if ever, seen it practiced: see above comment. Job security is great: no matter how poorly someone may perform their job, they won't be fired; the poor performance will just be ignored, or they’ll be moved to another position.
