I worked at Sobha full-time for less than a year

    Pros

My first impression was positive, unfortunately this quickly turned out to be an illusion. I can't speak for the main branch because I didn't work in construction and real estate, although I could see that general staff unhappiness and mistreatment by the managers prevailed even in other departments.

    Cons

Completely unstructured, top management jumps on projects without much thought, and is quick to hire people just to use their expertise for a while and then drop them just as quickly. Make sure to keep your contacts or any data acquired before on unrelated to Sobha (which would be of use to them) for yourself. Higher management (with rare exceptions) is unhelpful to their teams, unorganized, lacks transparency, is often absent, unfocused (won't read emails, pays no attention, and then makes utterly uninformed demands) and disinterested, and sometimes downright verbally abusive- including screaming at people by the very top person being frighteningly common and tolerated. The staff is not spoken to with respect, staff opinions aren't welcome, and a subservient attitude is required. Complete disregard for staff as human beings, expect no decency from even your line manager to show any concern or investment in you as an employee. Expectations are often completely irrational and unreasonable, and the goals aren't clearly set (partially due to lack of focus and knowledge from the top). HR is maybe the absolutely worst part of the company, so if you are working there start protecting yourself right away. From general incompetence and laziness to downright lies and attempts to trick the employee. Do not make a mistake of not demanding absolute clarity with everything and having it in writing. The contract is likely to be vague and allow you to be exploited by not specifying enough in job description, and will allow for clauses that will deduce unexpected fees from you on the way out. The HR will not mention important and relevant things in discussions when they obviously matter, and will later twist these omissions as your fault. From the start, you are being set up to get exploited as much as possible, so do not allow it. Don't work overtime because you won't get paid for it unless you manage to get prior written confirmation. Don't believe in verbal confirmations for your vacation dates (or anything else). Don't bother to work from home when you are sick because even if you send an email stating you are doing so, it will get deducted from your salary. Give absolute minimum as even less than that is what you will be getting in return. Highly unreliable because your employment terms can randomly be changed at any point (e.g. one department had their workdays change from 5 to 6, salary terms can be radically changed etc..) If you resigned, or are being laid off, it is likely that you will go through an HR nightmare. Know that many employees had this problem and that governmental agencies that deal with this type of issues are also familiar with this, and will be a good source for you to turn to directly. Don't allow yourself to get intimidated, and fight for your right of fair treatment if needed. From the start, keep personal record of everything, including any abuse, mistreatment or exploitation. Work environment overall is depressing, employees lack direction, there is no sense of purpose and general unhappiness prevails. People don't feel their work is respected, almost everyone is disposable.
