I have been working at Sonic Healthcare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    * Flex times * Onsite parking (fine print reads "parking only available IF you get there before 9:30 am")

    Cons

    * Level 2 Support on apps you've never worked on or been properly trained on. Yes, you will man the queue and not break for lunch for P1 issues even if they're outside your area of ability/expertise and will be expected to wait hand and foot on the Caché overlords to work their magic. Will leave you feeling like a monkey which is what most IT staff here are reduced to anyway since no one wants to learn Caché in... this day and age. * You will be underappreciated and underpaid - management has no clue who's done the lion's share of work on a project, so tough luck if you're a hardworking employee. * Colleagues are typically B-talent - many leave you wondering how they got hired in the first place. Some FA008 docs are a work of art where the author itself has no idea about what was written. * Promotions based on tenure not ability.

I worked at Sonic Healthcare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Parking on-site at Macquarie Park location. New Head Office in Sydney CBD from May 2019.

    Cons

An authoritarian leadership style led by one of the highest paid CEOs in Australia. Their cynical views of paying their employees too much and not paying themselves enough. Worried too much about what their competitors are doing and keeping too many doctors in leadership positions. Very inefficient to the company structure as each business unit (circa 20+) has its own payroll/ AP / finance department. Complexity and... cost of running operations is significant and too much politics prevents any progress being made with any new initiative. Leaders are so old that they are living in the past,it’s like taking a step back in time to the class system of the 80’s where Executives and employees are in separate offices and kitchen/dining areas. To the extent that executives have brand new PCs and employees have 10 year old PC equipment. Culture is much like the dated emotional intelligence in-house course putting you into 1 of 4 categories, maybe 15 years ago but nothing new or innovative. Distinctive lack of trust, fear of speaking out, lack of recognition and poor leadership.

    Advice to Management

Retire and get some fresh new faces in with innovative ideas. Reward employees better. Spend the money to update the dated systems and offices. Change the culture by again bringing in new HR faces whom have the ability to make changes rather than just following the general consensus.

I worked at Sonic Healthcare full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Variety of diagnostic cases, fellow colleagues

    Cons

Terrible management, awful awful supervisors, no pay rise for more than 6 years, expected to work additional time for free almost everyday, breaks are often interrupted by supervisors. Most people work there due to lack of Pathology jobs.

    Advice to Management

Shareholders may be bottom line to everything but your employees are humans too, show some care and kindness.

I worked at Sonic Healthcare full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company culture at sonic healthcare is second to none. If you are looking for a place to settle with job security, Sonic is the place to be. I saw no evidence of mismanagement, and I never felt under-resourced.

    Cons

If you are in your early career, there isn't a lot of opportunity to move up because most employees are in it for the long-haul. There are opportunities to move around in the organisation, but these are limited to on the rare occasion that someone leaves.

    Advice to Management

Regular performance reviews and adjustments to roles and personal KPIs could incentivise early-career employees to stick around longer.

    Pros

Loved working with people and the actual job

    Cons

Way to political. Young female staff bullied by older staff... they basically saw it as hierarchy depending how long you’ve been there. This is management themselves included
