    Great place to work

    Pros

    - Structured career path model - Ongoing training and career opportunities across the group - Employee benefits - The culture lead by management and the values

    Cons

For long tenured staff the constant and ongoing integration due to the merger thankfully has been slow, however most people talk about the culture pre acquisition when St George truly was 'small enough' to offer tailored and discretional service to it's customers. The the overall group is stronger than ever, and customers overall seem to be reaping some benifits of large project due to larger budgets and operational structure.

    Refocus is needed

    Pros

It's a large bank with plenty of opportunity to progress your career across the Westpac group. There are plenty of programs to assist in career development that you have access to.

    Cons

They have really lost focus on what is important in banking and that being the customer. The multi layered management structure from board level down with respect to the KPI drivers don't facilitate customer best interests and at often times contradict across business units. They have really lost their way in understanding client needs as the focus is all about maximising share holder value which is still important but not in the way it's being delivered. There is no point achieving growth at the expense of little margin and providing poor client outcomes.

Too many restructures and very poor management

Dec 25, 2015 - Senior Manager in Sydney

    Pros

Living close to home is a great benefit and the work stations are of a very good standard. Staff cafeteria is fantastic.

    Cons

Any issues or problems encountered are swept under the carpet. People who are promoted are often not up to doing the job effectively. In some cases, employees who have cost the bank money have been promoted. There is way too much staff turnover. One particular executive manager delights in shafting people and making nasty comments about them after that employee has left the organization. The very good staff leave. Very little mentoring is given to staff. Too much time is wasted with meetings. There is a huge emphasis on sales rather than risk. The technology is very, very outdated as very little is spent on computer upgrades. Many departments are run as charities for the benefit of customers and not as proper businesses.
