I have been working at Stanley Black & Decker full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Get to use and are exposed to a wide variety of tools.

    Cons

In the time I've worked for SBD they've had constant merit freezes, even before Covid-19. They will say that their people are their top resource but they are clearly growth driven. They made cuts to hours, furloughed whole teams due to covid-19. Not because they were in the red, but because growth had slowed (they were still making a profit, in fact the entire time I've worked with them they have had record profits). They set up a fund to help out employees hit hard financially and encouraged fellow employees to donate to the fund, which on the surface seems nice but they are the ones that put their employees in that position. With all the cuts, they still paid out a massive dividend, which if applied to the employees would have negated the need for some of the cuts. Morale has been going down since I was hired. Turn over is increasing, especially since a large portion of those laid off have found jobs elsewhere. The tools are designed based off of legacy programs and the amount of actual engineering in many of the tools is laughable.

"Probably the most dysfunctional place you'll find...."

I worked at Stanley Black & Decker full-time

    Pros

You'll find a few great people who get dumped on daily by yourself or upper management, but then you'll feel absolutely awful as the bottom level manager as you force unrealistic expectations upon them in a unbelievably dysfunctional environment. The only thing that flows "down stream" here is problems and denial/deflection of responsibility. But yeah, some of the people are nice. It just gets to a point where it's sad to look at them daily as you know how worthless the management above you makes them feel.

    Cons

environment in all aspects. management structure. ability to productive solve solutions to ending goal of full stream production to assembly. Lack of ability to identify leaders and especially, the leaders who literally do nothing on a daily basis. Overloading of expectations and responsibilities, especially when the plant manager "gets on" the value stream managers for not doing a thing then the vsm's create more unnecessary work/procedures to "make them look better" when in fact it reduces the ability to perform in multiple ways (i.e. natural production, employee moral, forced overtime, etc.). Horrific work conditions. The sewage systems need an overhaul as there is backflow that fills the cafeteria spaces...yeah, here's a "30 minute" lunch break, go eat in this room that smells like diarrhea. There's so much more, but I don't want to come off as a "hurt" former employee, this place is just that bad of an experience.

I have been working at Stanley Black & Decker full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are some good workers in lower, mid levels in power tools India team were I worked, but others just survive by "you scratch my back, I will scratch yours" skills. Great range of products in hand tools but bad planning. Keep chucking out ppl all the time. Salary good!

    Cons

Shameless management with no vision. Just a lucky bunch of mediocre management with no skills shooting in the dark. Masters in politics and back stabbing. If you are the blu-eyed' boy (but with no neccessary skills) you survive being the "YES" man. Very supply chain oriented company. Have to sell what v have and not what customers want. Highly dependent on sales from just two SKU's of dewalt i.e. chopsaws and grinders. If you take out these two, this company is a disaster.
