I worked at Stanley Black & Decker full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good brands and products. Opportunities are frequent due to acquisitions and steady stream of people leaving. Good operating systems.

    Cons

Lack of communication, decisions get made with zero consultation or thought for those they impact. Not many people that know much about products or the industry.

I worked at Stanley Black & Decker full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good career opportunities. Dynamic environment. Competitive salaries.

    Cons

Stock performance rules, therefore quarterly results drive the entire strategy. Frequent shifts in direction and massive restructuring processes if there is a threat of deviation from their quarterly promises to Wall Street analysts. Great for investors and executives with great stock-based compensation plans, not so good for normal employees.

I have been working at Stanley Black & Decker full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good products and world renowned brands. Factory in Pune is excellent and on the way to becoming a export hub.

    Cons

Bad management supported by spineless HR. Hire and fire culture. Also top level attrition quite high as the MD and his crony keep harassing and bulldozing others forcing them to quit. Due to this culture, we find it difficult to hire good ppl, hence have to pay out of the nose to get some reasonably good staff. Have the extremely sad habit of hiring from large MNC's and firing them within 6 months, leaving them high and dry.

I worked at Stanley Black & Decker full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is a filtered tap providing around the clock drinking water. There is a picnic sized hamper topped up each Monday with Fruit. There is an onsite canteen (although it is expensive). There is an onsite carpark – high probability of securing a parking spot due to a high volume of recent redundancies.

    Cons

The Leadership Team are not Approachable ‘People Persons’ The Leadership Team is predominantly male with a mutually shared sense of self-preservation and promotion. It becomes quite the office spectacle to witness newbie Leaders pretentiously strive tooth and nail to demonstrate their sense of belonging within this group. It is a select group that intentionally segregate themselves from the wider office. Line Managers will exploit your talents. If you display a tenacious drive to deliver expect your Line Manager to delegate you tasks at 5:25pm as they pack up for the evening. Your sole purpose is to provide wins for your Line Manager to credit as their sole contributions, ideas and efforts in closed door meetings with Leadership. You will not be the face of your own work as Line Managers only converse with Leadership. A strict hierarchal pyramid is enforced to prevent you openly communicating with Leadership. Expect frowns of disdain when conversing with Leadership. It is vital that when your name crosses a Director’s desk that who you are and what you do remains a mystery. This ensures your Line Manager can continually call upon you as a human shield for errors in their management. You will meet wrongly convicted mascots of failure and notice that they are always lower ranking employees. Proposing Positive Changes is Bad. This is a UK subsidiary focused solely on meeting the monthly sales number. Discovering pre-existing errors in UK processes and suggest actionable means of remedying them will not be met positively. Errors have to be reported to corporate in the US and Leaders are required to take ownership of these errors. Tumbleweed Friday’s Directors typically work from home on Friday’s. Subsequently, expect to notice your Line Manager needing a regular tyre change or to attend their fifth home boiler inspection for the year to also always fall on a Friday. I will let you decide whether that is a pro or con.
