I worked at State Street full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent benefit package, nearly impossible to be fired, Opportunity to be promoted and move around within company.

    Cons

Low pay, low morale. No real skill needed or training to develop skill provided. Your position will eventually be broken down to the simplest of tasks and outsourced.

    Advice to Management

Engage workers so they have a sense of value. Allow autonomy. Modernize benefits packages to today's standards/employee wants. Add training that provides real world skills and value.

I worked at State Street for less than a year

    Pros

Decent learning experience for entry-level work.

    Cons

Pay is terrible. They lowered the 401(k) matching when I was there. Morale is extremely low. There are way too many managers and VPs for the number of associates. Everything is very political. They are also constantly outsourcing jobs to India to cut costs.

    Advice to Management

Give a damn about the employees!

I worked at State Street for less than a year

    Pros

If you require some resume building to say that you've worked in the financial services industry. Not an ideal workplace environment for growth opportunities. Truly lives up to the corporate bureaucracy stigma.

    Cons

A blatant lack of disregard towards employee training and development. Most of these jobs can be automated, however since they have such a high-turnover and from a liability standpoint it is cheaper to blame misconduct or errors on employees rather than face legal action for a technological mishap.

    Advice to Management

Consider better standard operating procedures for training employees.

I have been working at State Street full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of knowledgeable people. Good place to start out in financial services. Benefits are decent, but not great. They appear to be slightly cut each year. Good place if you need a job now, but continue looking because there's a good chance you won't advance like you want to. Pretty good work-life balance if you're with the right group.

    Cons

Lack of advancement opportunity. Culture based on the need to be constantly working even if you have nothing to do (just look busy). More jobs been cut and sent over to Syntel offices in India. Low base salary, lack of overtime opportunities, and salary increases & bonuses cut each year. Global Services has created leadership programs to create leaders, but rarely leaders to leadership positions after.

    Advice to Management

If you want employees to be motivated they need to be incentivized. You can't keep giving someone a great performance review, but not looking for promotional opportunities for good performers. Also, you need to create more of a culture of getting your work done and less about being at your desk. A person shouldn't have to look busy if they have no work to do at the current time.

I worked at State Street for less than a year

    Pros

It's a good financial institution to get your foot in. The company is quite large and there are many good positions to be transferred to internally

    Cons

Not challenging, mediocre pay, not much learning available, responsibilities are outsourced to India

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as learners, not workers

I have been working at State Street full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The main pro of working at State Street is the flexible hours and laid back atmosphere as long as you are staying on top of deadlines.

    Cons

The cons would be unobtainable deadlines and working with a group based out of Mumbai with the language barriers.
